Geek Out 2: Return of the Totals
Jan. 14th, 2008 09:20 pmThis time, I've gone back over the totals (including the friendslocked ones that I couldn't previously see, hence my difficulty with Term V), and covered the monthly points.

As suspected, the two major increases in points correspond with book releases: first beginning in July 2005 when Half Blood Prince was released and peaking in September and then in July 2007 when Deathly Hallows hit stores, peaking in August.
The post-release points drop looks more significant in 2007 than 2005 but the levels returned to are quite similar. 2007's peak was much higher (probably since it was the last book). It's possible 2005's peak would have dropped lower had the GoF movie not been release in November 2005 but that's speculation.
It's not included here but the table this chart is built from includes running totals. I haven't published it because some of the adding up done for end of term totals and the like doesn't correspond to the totals given for each month. Fortunately, it never changes the cup winner.
I'd planned to include details relevant to the number of active members as available in points breakdowns but I've only got these for the last few months and it's probably going to take me a while (manually counting and cross-referencing names so people don't get counted twice) to put that together. So, there will be one more post on this subject looking at how many people it took to achieve the points and then seeing who'd be winning if it was done on percentages.
If anyone wants to see all the points posts I used, they're now all tagged under 'Points'.
