[identity profile] quasi-hayley.livejournal.com posting in [community profile] hogwartsishome
Whilst I was waiting to be reapproved (I'm still Slytherin!) having been awol, I was reading through all (all the unlocked ones anyway) the old posts and decided to be incredibly sad and put together a table of House Points since the very first term. Thus I present you with:

The Terms marked with a * are the ones I wasn't certain I'd got the right numbers for as the end of term tally wasn't marked as such so if anyone knows better, feel free to let me know and I'll update the table. For people who find this kind of stuff as interesting as I apparently do, I included an average number of points per term.

Looks like we Slytherins have got some catching up to do!

And now you can look at what would have happened if points always ran on aggregate...Gryffindor would always win. That should make the Lions happy!

The one thing going for Slytherin, is that they have been the most consistent with the least variation, whereas the rest of us are all over the place.

Interesting to see the extreme lows and extreme highs. Like Term 8, I am assuming that is when Deathly Hollows came out, and Term 3, which if I am right on the timing is when Order of the Phoenix hit theaters. I wish there was a way to maintain interest even when there are not big releases coming up, especially since the books are finished and we only have two movies left.

I'd be interested to know what caused such massive variations in participation over the terms... you'd expect it to increase steadily as the comm got bigger, but it's all over the place.

actually, it could be seasonal. it vaguely runs along with the school holidays.
oh, thats not nearly so interesting, now.

Counting the amount of members seems like a lot of work... (:

Yes, and to be honest i doubt it would help a great deal; just because a house has a certain amount of members, doesnt mean that they all participate. Without looking i'd wager a guess that Gryffindors have the greatest number, but they dont always venture into the comm any further than sorting. You could count the active members from the end of term points tally, like you say, but i'm not sure what that would end up proving; there will always be a handful of stronger members who make up the majority of the points, and a handful of weaker ones. Too many variables..

oh, i see! Sorry, i was in full Claw Geek mode and was trying to relate it to a million and seventy things. Over-complicating stuff FTW! XD
I'd be interested to see if the Puffs have the most participants; they're meant to be hard-working by default, so you'd sort of expect lots of steady points earners. Claws will have a handful of points-machines, i'm not sure about the others.

oooh, HP social trends...

YES, thats a great idea. looking at it, it cant be anything to do with school holidays; the biggest rise was during a prime exam season. It must be something to do with film and book release spurring new members.
ooof, it just got interesting again!

I think that a lot of people are desperately trying to hold onto the magic post book 7, and that has rustled up a lot of activity in all HP communities, not just HiH.

This is fantastic and geeky. xD

I know *I* joined the community after the last book was released.... because I didn't want to let the world go yet. xD It's been great.

Wow, that's really interesting! I'm glad you took time out to do this! 8D

Though I wonder what happened to term V?

Term V totals are here (http://community.livejournal.com/hogwartsishome/285990.html)!
I should know! It was right after I joined :)

We're severely handicapped because of our size; if HiH operated under percentage of total members were active instead of how many, we might actually stand a chance. But when there's at least 2x the amount of active Ravenclaws, even if all the Slytherins participate, we could catch up but not win.

Therefore we must resort to...sabotage!

Okay, not really. But apparently we need to do a little planning over in [livejournal.com profile] cunningfolk!

Heh, I'm not sure if that'd help much. I was prefect in our best and worst terms.* And I was pretty much always the same sort of prefect.

Yeah, I agree. Then again, Slytherin is a slightly exclusive house (and I honestly don't mean any disrespect) so it's hard to get in there. :)

Yay for infographics! XD

I'm surprised that someone really took the time to do this. XD *hugglez to Hayley*

We need to get more participation from the Slytherins. They've only won one house cup since! I've been a Slytherin before (MOOHAHA!) and it's quite depressing. RAH RAH SLYTHERIN! AND RAVENCLAW! XD

Anyway, this is all really fascinating. Now that I'm a Stat major and all, I could use HiH as a case study! Oooh! Anyway... gotta run off. XD
