Hello all, this is your friendly voting mod speaking!
A couple of things:
1) Both [livejournal.com profile] bringtheirony and [livejournal.com profile] mauvais_pli have elaborated on their applications. If you gave them a "no vote" you may want to reconsider. (Or maybe you still want to no vote, whatever.) If you do re-vote, remember to delete your old no-vote please.

2) If you no voted for someone it DOES count as a vote unless you've changed it (in which case the new vote counts), so don't worry. Also, if someone gets a majority of no votes, they get asked to reapply, in case you were wondering.

3) If you voted and forgot to sign it, PLEASE delete your vote and revote with the signature. Please don't just leave it sigatureless. It makes me very sad to not be able to give people points for votes. Very sad indeed.

4)Please don't respond to other people's votes. When you vote, just respond to the comment for your house. Try to make sure that the comment that you are replying to is not the vote from someone else in your house instead of the house comment. (If you accidently do that, and it's easy to make that mistake, just delete your comment and repost it correctly.)

That is all for now! Have a good weekend everyone! Happy new year! Dance in the rain if it is raining near you like it is raining here!

We're going to try something new this week, and if it goes over well, it'll be the way we sort from now on. If it goes smoothly, it should help the voting mod ([livejournal.com profile] margalite) to count up the points for each house in a way that's a bit easier, as well as helping out the prefects and co-prefects of each house in trying to figure out their top sorters. It's important that you guys pay close attention and follow the directions, or it won't work!

What's going to happen is this: When Margo puts up an application, she's going to add four comments immediately. DO NOT VOTE UNTIL SHE HAS ADDED THIS COMMENTS. They will be as follows:

Gryffindor Votes.
Hufflepuff Votes.
Ravenclaw Votes.
Slytherin Votes.

If you are a member of Gryffindor, you will reply to the comment that says 'Gryffindor Votes', Puffs to the 'Hufflepuff votes', etc. I'll do an example of this in the comments here so you can see what we mean. Yes, the votes will collapse, but it will be fine, as all the prefect or voting mod will need to do is click on the 'view thread' link to see all of the votes listed there. The important thing is that people need to reply ONLY to the comment made by Margo under the [livejournal.com profile] votingmod, and not to one another. Make sense? If you aren't sure exactly, have a look in the comments and you'll see how it will work.

Prefects, please pass this info on to your housemates and/or link them to this post. We're really hoping this will make things easier for all of us!

Also, remember these things when voting:
1. Always sign with your name and house or your vote will not count.
2. Using either a sigtag OR an icon to show your house pride gives your house an extra point. So, if you vote and sign with your name and house, you get one point. Using a house pride icon or sigtag as well means you get two points per vote.
3. Do not reply to anyone else's votes , and if the applicant replies to you, do not reply back. The voting mod will remind the applicant that they aren't supposed to be having conversations within the votes.

The Slytherin Bias
Moon Faery & Slytherin House//Slytherin

Notes: This was posted first in [livejournal.com profile] cunningfolk. Since my fellow Slytherins seem to be throwing their support behind it, I'm posting it here for the Mods and other House members to read. This spawned from frustration over the incredibly large gap in numbers between Slytherin and the rest of the Houses, giving Slytherin a strong disadvantage in the race for Points. I'd like to ask any Mods that read this to consider the negative wording in the Cheat Sheets and general House concepts applied to Slytherin, and how this might affect both morale, Sorting and inter-House relations.

Resources: "What is Slytherin?" thread in [livejournal.com profile] cunningfolk (http://community.livejournal.com/cunningfolk/237887.html).
The Harry Potter series by J.K. Rowling, books 1-6.
"What is a Slytherin?" poem by [livejournal.com profile] onezeronothing

Abstract: Slytherin, with the other three Houses, is a keystone on which Hogwarts and [livejournal.com profile] hogwartsishome stands. Much maligned in the series, why does Slytherin hold such a poor reputation? What is the truth behind the House of the snake and those who bear its banner? The Slytherin House at [livejournal.com profile] hogwartsishome would like to officially set the record straight.

We had a very good point brought up in the Ravenclaw common room regarding no votes. One of our members stated that when they got no voted, and members asked them to elaborate, they had a hard time telling what people wanted them to elaborate on.

So this brings me to my next request -- when you do no vote someone, and ask for elaboration, try to be a little more helpful. :) Offer them hints as to which questions they can add more to, and if it's the whole application, don't hesitate in saying so (politely, of course).

Thank you,

Kristi, Ravenclaw
