The Big Announcement
May. 30th, 2005 11:27 amI don't know how many of you have been waiting for this, but here it is! Our big End of Term Contest. Major point earnings involved!
The term will be ending on July 31st, 2005 at midnight. There will be a huge contest to give every single house one last chance to win that coveted House Cup, and it will take place on July 15/16, 2005. Yes, you read that right.
The reason you're learning about this now is the need for preparations.
Your contest is a mission of sorts. And read carefully, because for each entry we receive, your house will earn one-hundred points.
The first part -- you may download this "Get Sorted!" flyer or this "Invitation" flyer to use, or you may create your own. However, if you create your own flyer, it will need to be emailed to me for approval at bunny.district@gmail.com. Once downloaded, print or copy at least twenty-five of these flyers. You can use either your home printer, or a local print/copy service such as Kinko's.
Next, you're to take these flyers with you to your local Half-Blood Prince release party (most bookstores have these; Books-a-Million, Borders, Barnes & Noble, etc), and simply hand them out to other people in attendance.
To prove that you've done so, you'll need to provide at least two pictures of yourself handing out the flyers or posting them where they can be seen (if the store allows this). If the stores do not allow you to hand out flyers, we will need pictures of some sort of promotion -- people reading your shirt/pin/etc, placing flyers on cars, etc.
Other Rules:
If you can prove that you attended more than one party (providing the necessary pictures from each, as well as proof of the different locations), you will earn one hundred points per location. For those of you in large cities, this could equal a large amount of points in only a few hours.
Do not break any rules that the bookstore may have; you might have to call ahead of time to check on their regulations for flyers and such. If they do not allow them, try the parking lot, or slipping them on cars -- which is legal in most states. Please check out these details before acting!
You are allowed to make a group effort, and each participant may earn points, but each entry must be separate and of each individual participant. The people receiving the flyers in the photos may not be another participant.
Tips:
Print your flyers on fluorescent/ neon paper; most copiers and printers carry these.
Wear name tags or buttons that say "Get Sorted! Ask me How." -- You can create these through Cafe-Press.com.
ETA's:
atalantapendrag has made some very simple buttons and other stuff here.
You may alter the flyers to include your LJ username so that you can earn referral points!
OPTIONS
If you find that you are unable to participate in this contest (parental problems, not attending the release party, etc), we will allow you to do an extracurricular activity to help out with earning points. To make it more difficult for those of you who participate in this, we will not announce what it is until the night of the contest, and you will be required to take pictures of your results that will be submitted by no later than twenty-four hours after the contest is announced. This is to ensure that you only do your work during the time that the other members will be doing theirs.
Also, to help out with those of you who would like to make the contest a group effort, you may leave the following information to be added into a database to organize groups who live in the same area! Leaving this information in now way requires you to make a group effort, but if you think you might be interested at all, it would be a good idea to be added into the database.

Any other large nearby cities you would be able to travel to:
The need for the last question is for those of us who live in more obscure towns that are just outside more prominent cities.
All comments are screened.
Feel free to leave thoughts, questions, or suggestions in the comments -- we want this contest to be the biggest thing HiH has ever done! :-D
Point totals for May will be up within the next couple of days -- we're still lacking only three sets. :)

Date: 2005-05-30 04:51 pm (UTC)Although I have a disability that prevents me from driving, so getting to a release party isn't really doable for me.
I can make up some CafePress buttons (at base price, naturally) for people who can go, once I know what info you want on them.

Date: 2005-05-30 07:00 pm (UTC)Buttons, t-shirts, hats, stickers, postcards, etc., using both flyer designs and a simplified link (exact design depends on what the particular product allows for). I did my best to see that all House colors were represented :)

So don't worry, even if you can't attend a party there is an alternative. :)

Date: 2005-05-30 05:40 pm (UTC)could you please tell us what fonts you have used for the flyers? Since I'm living in Germany, I will have to translate the flyers into German, but the pieces you made are so great, that I'd like to copy the style...

Date: 2005-05-30 05:47 pm (UTC)The "Get Sorted..." is in "Parry Hotter"
The rest of the text on that flier is in "Salamander"
And the invitation flier is done in "Hannibal Lecter"
Hope you find them okay! :)
Fonts....
Date: 2005-05-31 12:10 am (UTC)For most of the Harry Potter fonts, I have found them obviously on mugglenet.com, which only sometimes works for me, but also at:

Fabulous contest btw, even if I probably won't be able to participate in the big one...perhaps in the small one tba....
