Diagon Rules and Knuts update...

A lot of people haven't claimed their knuts yet. With Hogsmeade coming up in a day - it's a good idea to claim your knuts now!

Additionally, beginning June 1, 2005, people will have 30 days to claim their knuts before they vanish like Leprechaun gold. We're working on creating a lottery so that people will all have the opportunity to win any unclaimed knuts. I'll keep you posted.

Below is a list of people who my records indicate have not deposited last month's knuts. If your name appears below, please go to hh_diagon and make a deposit in Gringott's!

However, in simple terms, my response to these questions is this:



1 - What are knuts?

If you have to ask this, you've obviously not read Harry Potter closly. Knuts are one of the three types of wizarding money out there. (The other two would be sickles and galleons) Just like in the potterverse, knuts have a monitary value here at HiH.

2 - How are knuts earned?

You earn knuts by participating in contests and debates. Debates generally earn you 5 knuts for participation. Winning or placing 2nd or 3rd in a contest earn you even more!

3 - What are knuts for?

Buying stuff, hello!?! :D

During Hogsmeade Weekend (in particular) many people open up shops where they sell custom sig tags, icons and the like. If you have the knuts for it *said tongue in cheek* you can buy these items. Also, Diagon Alley has shops in which you can buy things. People who are Animagi, for instance, are required to buy spell books. Sure, these items you buy in the shops aren't things you can actually use in the physical world... But, hey, this whole community is standing to the side, too! Besides, even in this fictional world it doesn't hurt to be able to say "I have more money than you!" But then again, that might be the Slytherin in me talking ;)

You go to hh_diagon. There, you can go to Gringott's and see your username, vault number, and how many knuts you have. There's also a form there you fill out whenever you earn knuts so they can add them to your vault. ^^

It says there to tell them how many knuts I have. So how do I find that out because whenever there's an update I don't get any... I'm totally at a loss...

4. What can I do to earn knuts?

Not everything listed above earns some sort of knuts. Just to go down the list:

Contests -- Entering earns you five, placing earns you 20, 15, and 10 for first, second, and third respectively.

Debate participation earns five.


5. What do I do with my knuts/points?

Your knuts are kept totaled by the officials, who then give their totals to the moderator at the end of each month. The Mod will make a post, notifying each house of their point totals and each member of their knut totals. You can then deposit your knuts in Gringotts, and use them to buy things! Beware, however! As of June 2005, knuts must be deposited within thirty days of being posted in the main community. After thirty days you forfeit your knuts to a community lottery.

The points you earn, however, go to your house totals.


Okay, there you go. I actually read that. But none of that answers my questions. Do I count them myself and say: those are my points and knuts now I want an account, or what do I actually do to get them?

Thing is, I have been a debator, I have sorted and I more or less regularily participate in the club contests (do they earn you points as well?), but I never ever got points let alone knuts. So what do I have to do to get them??

Sorting and club contests don't earn you knuts, only points.
You do not have to keep track of the knuts yourself:
The Mod will make a post, notifying each house of their point totals and each member of their knut totals.
If you're not on the list, you didn't earn knuts.
How to get an account and deposit your knuts is explained in the Gringotts post at hh_diagon.

Everytime I got o hh_diagon nothing happens. Its just a yellow page with no buttons to click.

ummm...I'm assuming those 5 knuts for me are from last month??
If that's the case, I commented about those a few days after the post went up. I looked at my total and it looks like those 5 have not been added in, but now that I have more, I'm not really sure if they have or not since I posted them the same day I claimed my Hogsmeade knuts.

Where are those knuts from? Because I recall getting 10 (5 knuts, twice), but one might've been from a previous term...
