I was going to make the same suggestion, haha, I just need to find the suggestions post...

I addressed it here. (http://community.livejournal.com/hogwartsishome/776110.html?thread=16848558#t16848558) and the FAQ post is here (http://clubsmods.livejournal.com/#post-clubsmods-532) for future use. ;D

Actually, the only reason I commented here in the first place was because it concerned me, too, and I was already in the process of finding the post in question. =)

Well, you're the first two to ask for an explanation so I'm personally still not sold on explaining why club applicants weren't chosen. For one, it's criticism and it's not entirely constructive since all we could say is:
"Sorry, you weren't chosen for this club because:
- someone seemed more motivated
- someone had exciting ideas
- someone put a lot of time in their application, had well-thought out sentences"
(pick one or two reasons)

If you don't get picked for a job, the company is not going to give you feed-back. Why? Because the fact that they chose someone else tells you that someone else better suited came along, but it doesn't tell you by what margin they were better.

We could make a post where club appliers ask for feed-back on their application- but then again, the above is all we could say.

The bit about jobs and companies makes me grimace. It's frustrating to be told in an interview that you're a very ideal candidate and they never get back to you. XP

BUT YES I can see where both sides are coming from here. I too would want feedback on why I wasn't chosen, so I could improve my application the next time around. On the other hand, what other explanation can you give other than "the other application looked better"?

The complaints I've heard are mostly because the people who don't get the position aren't even notified. Surely there's a way to sum this up in a couple polite sentences and leave a comment/send a message to the club leaders who don't get the position. To use your employment analogy, it'd be the same type of courtesy that an employer (or a school, or anything else that requires applying) might send saying "sorry, there were a number of qualified applicants, and we had to make a hard choice" and so on.

And I'm sorry that this is not in your feedback post, but this does seem to be where the discussion's at. ;)

You're right! I did that for the previous Club Leader's applying, but I didn't do it for the mid-September batch because I felt bad since I couldn't link them to another open Club Application. Entirely my fault, but I'll definitely put that on the to-do-next-time list. *nods* It's common courtesy after all.

Awesome. Yeah, especially if it's something that you've done in the past, I'd say it's a courtesy you should keep around. :)

If by motivated you mean has more time to put in, then I don't see why it's a critique to say that, personally, and I can understand myself being passed over for that, since I currently work one fulltime and one weekend job that don't give me access to the internet, and have extracurricular activities two nights a week that, again, doesn't give me much access to the internet.

If it's because someone has more exciting ideas, let me know! That makes me more excited to see what the new leader has planned. =)

If they put more thought into their application, then cool, I can handle that.

I get where you're coming from, honestly, but at the same time, like I said, for me personally... I'd like to know. It kinda sucks to wait and wait to find out, and then see the new roster post before anything is said about, "Say hello to your new club leaders!"

Since we're talking about it here (which I actually would have preferred to talk about it in PM or on the FAQ post, since I posted there, but I suppose this way, people can see the process and either agree or disagree with the suggestion - it IS only a suggestion, based on my personal preferences)... maybe a better suggestion would be to add a note to the bottom of the app asking if people want to be notified whether they got the club or not? It doesn't even have to have a reason. Then people can either say yes or no, and it's easier. I hope, anyway. =)

Feel free to use it or not.

No need to be sorry. I like long-winded! :P I think that what you said is interesting. (I'm still sceptical of giving feed-back since I'm put off by the idea of someone ranting about how [livejournal.com profile] clubsmods didn't think their application original enough, y'know? AH, with mod positions come bad stuff too. ;D)

I am sorry for not contacting the clup applicants of mid-september that they didn't get the club. [livejournal.com profile] hecticity raised a good point.

I'll talk about it with Gerry, I think your "note on the bottom of the app" idea sounds promising!

GAH, dammit! I deleted the comment, I was going to add something about the other comments that I totally didn't see when I made the comment. =(

And it's okay! I'm pretty much over my butthurt now, and I'm glad we got to discuss it, even if it WAS in the wrong spot (LOL - sorry, that's really funny to me). I had no idea if you had contacted people about it before, so I was just going off the one time I applied and didn't get it, haha.

Aww, yay! I'm glad! And I just thought that might work better for those people like me who are all, "OMG, I MUST KNOOOOOOW! *flail*"

Now to join the music club and suggest my battle of the bands idea, cause OMG, I want to do that!

It's a shame you didn't ask this in the FAQ where all the suggestions go, but since you posted it here I'll just reply here. (: In the future it would be great if you could address problems as soon as you see them, and not wait for "a good moment"- whatever that is. I, and I'm pretty sure Gerry too, prefer to tackle things directly and maturely. Open communication is the key.

On to your questions- as you can read in the application post (http://clubsmods.livejournal.com/#post-clubsmods-1131): "We're looking for motivated people with creative and unique activity ideas. If you think you're up for it, go for it! Good Luck!!"

Basically what we're interested in is having someone MOTIVATED to lead a club: who has creative ideas? who seems like they'd invest time in their club? who doesn't have an official position yet? who took time to fill out the survey?

So if you didn't get a club it was either because someone was more motivated, or maybe put in more thought in their application or had more creative ideas (also not shying away of investing a lot of time in them).

I personally don't think it would be a good idea to give reasons why people don't get the club they're applying for. We're not out here to criticise, we're here to pick someone who seems really motivated to lead a club.

Now that you know what questions we ask when reading through applications, you can improve for the next try, if you want. (:
