Discussion #1 - Polar
Sep. 2nd, 2009 09:58 am(I want to post some social discussion questions here; if this is a problem, please send me a message, and I'll shut up.)
In honor of the Dramione and Drinny and Salga fans, I thought I'd open up a discussion on cross-House 'ships in other fandoms--so here, in a sentence to a short paragraph, you can introduce your favorite non-HP canon 'ship whom you'd sort into two different houses (any two different houses.)
For instance:
Eve Dallas/Roarke (JD Robb's 'In Death' series) - Eve is a Gryffindor with a side of honey badger, and Roarke is probably the world's most delicious Slytherin. She's a homicide cop, brave and edgy and sharp and built to stand for the voiceless and the helpless because she was once voiceless and helpless, and even though she knows it's not perfect, she believes in the law; and he's a slick who spent his life thumbing his nose at that law, a former victim himself who taught himself to be no one's patsy--he's spent thirty years determined to get and have and own and control, and he's uber-smooth and clever and patient and focused on not being trapped in the past.
Anyone else want to play?

Date: 2009-09-02 04:16 pm (UTC)House & Cuddy.
Okay, an almost canon pairing. (Inevitable.) I would place House in Slytherin and Cuddy in Ravenclaw, well maybe more of a Ravenpuff. House only bothers once something serves his own interests and goals, very sly and cunning. He would have a couple of Ravenclaw traits in him, too. I can see them at least. ;) And then there's Cuddy, who's already worked herself up to become head of a hospital, she is most definitely into her reading & knowledge. She's hard working, with a soft spot for adorable, cute things, and most definitely for the oh so sneaky House.
And it works! ♥ XD
If this was totally the wrong thing, feel free to hit me over the head with a plank.

Date: 2009-09-02 04:31 pm (UTC)Brennan is undeniably Ravenclaw - to an extreme, almost a negative extreme. She's focused on the facts, and gets lost when she enters a social situation. A lot of things go over her head because they're rooted in emotion, not facts. She absorbs information like a sponge, because she likes to, and everything she does and sees is through a highly academic lens. Sure, she has her smoldering moments, but most of the time, she's more cold and analytical. She's detail oriented, a brilliant scientist and a genius.
Booth, on the other hand, I believe to be a roaring Gryffindor. He's smart, yes, but he lets that all be hidden by his lulzy ways. Wait, you want canon Gryff characteristics? Okay, he's brave and has a strong sense of duty (both as a father and to his country), he's chivalrous, and, being in the FBI, has a strong sense of and belief in justice. On the other hand, he can be incredibly self-righteous and stubborn.
And I need it to happen. Like, yesterday. :)

Date: 2009-09-02 04:40 pm (UTC)Despite his lapse in loyalty on one occasion, that action was to help House and going behind his back obviously pained Wilson a great deal. Add to that his deep concern for his patients, his hardworking nature and patience with House's shenanigans, plus his need for fair play - it all spells badger to me, in the best way possible.
But then, I've always been very fond of Slytherin/Hufflepuff-pairings. ♥ ;D

Date: 2009-09-02 10:02 pm (UTC)thinking of Barney as a Gryff. Not even gonna lie...
Although, I had him pegged as more of a Slytherpuff, honestly. Because he's manipulative and sometimes thoughtless in order to get what he wants - usually sex. But on the other hand, the loyalty he has to his friends (barring that ONE breach of The Bro Code), is absolutely undeniable.
But you've got me wondering differently with the whole impulsive, impatient and boastful thing. Maybe a Slytherdor?

Date: 2009-09-02 07:51 pm (UTC)Mal Reynolds and Inara - Firefly/Serenity
Mal is something of a Slytherdor, concerned with getting money and keeping his autonomy and clever enough to do pretty much whatever it takes to protect both his coffers and his freedom, including using others (though generally with their consent.) Inara I see as more of a Ravenpuff, cool and collected and thoughtful and observant. It's not so much of a 'she blows cold to his hot' as, I think, that she is cool and fluid to his cool and dry.

Date: 2009-09-02 08:49 pm (UTC)Buffy is most definitely Gryffindor. She talks the talk AND slays the vampire. She cares for every single one of her friends and family (no matter how stubborn they can be... *coughDAWNcough*, and would die to protect them. (In fact, she has! Twice!)
Spike is a Slytherin, with a tad of Gryffindor thrown in. But not much. He's cunning, sly, and patient. While he inevitably turns to the good side, he'll always have a touch of devil in him. =P

Date: 2009-09-02 10:30 pm (UTC)I foresee some disagreement on this, but I really, truly think that Juliet's a Slytherin, and Sawyer's a Gryffindor.
STAY WITH ME HERE!!
Think of all the stuff Juliet's done to try and get back home, and the way she manipulated Jack & pretty much everybody else. She's extremely ambitious (taking a job a long ways from home because she believed it would further her career), and certainly very clever. Actually, I'm thinking Slytherclaw for her, although I see a little Hufflepuff in her devotion to those she loves (her sister, Sawyer). Overall, though, Juliet's ambitious, cunning, determined, strategic, demanding, resourceful, manipulative, succint, and unapologetic.
Now, Sawyer. He's boastful, cocky, proud, determined, impulsive, confrontational, reckless, charismatic, UTTERLY tactless (when he's not watching himself to make sure he's being charismatic), and certainly boastful. I look at him and see hard-core Gryffindor, but I think he also has a little more than his fair share of Slytherdor qualities of well... And do I spy a little Ravenclaw? ;)
(NO, OF COURSE THESE DESCS WEREN'T RIPPED OFF THE VOTING CHEAT SHEETS. ;) Sorry, but it was helpful!)
I rest my case on these two.

Date: 2009-09-02 11:19 pm (UTC)Lee is totally a Hufflepuff. There's definitely a bit of Gryffindor in there, what with the flying Vipers and being CAG, but you can tell that when it comes down to it, he'd much rather everyone play nice and love each other. He's also a great mediator, which I've always seen as a Hufflepuff thing.
Kara is almost all Gryffindor. She's a daredevil, doesn't always think before she acts, and has her own, very interesting sense of justice. There's a bit of Slytherin in her ambition and her tendency towards coldness.

Rose is definitely a Hufflepuff. She's caring, loyal and has a huge heart, cares so much for people, even those she hardly knows. Definitely a Hufflepuff.
The Doctor is...okay assuming we're talking about the 10th Doctor and not the 9th or another one, I see him as a Ravenclaw instinctively. He's analytical, he knows RIDICULOUS amounts of knowledge, and he's very focussed. I can also see an argument for Gryffindor or Slytherin though so feel free to argue :)
The two of them are perfect though because she grounds him and reminds him to unfocus himself enough to see the forest for the trees, and to be more open hearted. :)
I love them. <3

Date: 2009-09-03 01:29 am (UTC)Actually, I see Rose as a Gryff with a bit of 'puff and Ten as a Ravendor, heavy on the 'dor. Martha I see as a 'claw, Donna as a Slytherpuff.
I love that I can talk Doc with people!!!!!

Date: 2009-09-03 03:43 am (UTC)I can see the argument for Ravendor yeah, he's got an adventurous stubborn streak in him don't he? Donna seems more of a puff than a Slyther though...and Martha...hmmmmmm I dunno 'bout Martha.

Date: 2009-09-03 10:14 am (UTC)That 70s Show: Jackie and Hyde. Jackie is a Slytherin, only interested in what serves her, ambitious etc. Hyde is a Gryffindor, laid back, in it for the lulz, brave, smart and has a healthy disregard for the rules :)

Date: 2009-09-03 09:16 pm (UTC)...Kitty and Red. Kitty is a Hufflepuff, obvs. Hard working, loyal, etc. But what is Red? Is he a puff too? Yeah. I think he is.
Meredith & Derek
Date: 2009-09-03 08:39 am (UTC)Grey's: Mer-Der!!!
Meredith is a tough sort to be honest, but on the whole I'd really have to put her in Slytherin. She's got a LOT of Ravenclaw, but lets be honest here and say Slytherclaws are quite prevalent. While she has grown a lot and opened herself to being loved by others and faced some of the demons that made her closed off and unaccepting of love and affection, she is still very much out for herself and her own success. It's like a code with her and her friends (minus Izzie of course) that while they look out for each other, it is never considered rude to look out for oneself first. She will take extraordinary measures to succeed (the trial, anyone?) and she is EXTREMELY loyal to her own.
Derek has a little lion to him, but overall I'd say he's more of a Hufflepuff. No one gets to the top of their field like he is without being extremely hardworking. He is loyal to his friends, colleagues, and stuck by Meredith when I'm guessing NO sane person would have. He even gave Addison a shot back in the day for the sake of marriage, and was cut deeply when his wife and best friend had the nerve to turn on him and cheat behind his back. He's very accepting and open minded.

Date: 2009-09-03 08:50 am (UTC)Chase/Cameron
Cameron is a Ravenclaw. To be more specific, she's a Ravendor. Her saving people thing goes WAY past the goodwill that would land her in hufflepuff to being a pathalogical need which soundly makes her secondary Gryffindor, IMHO. But her smarts and her curiosity and thirst for knowledge and experience totally makes her a Ravenclaw.
Chase is a hard sort, since the writers have jerked around his character so much but at heart I think he's a Slytherdor. He's kind of a conundrum as a person, so it makes sense that he would have so many house qualities that seemingly duel against one another but really mesh well when it comes to his persona. He's got the saving people thing too, going all the way back to his childhood with his mom, and with how emotional he gets over patients. But he also has a capacity to be cold, calculating, and to manipulate situations to suit his needs and desired ends. He has a MASSIVE heart and a lot of nerve, but he's not above doing some questionable things to get what he wants.

Date: 2009-09-03 04:31 pm (UTC)As for Chase's mom, she was a raging alcoholic. His dad left, and it was up to him to take care of her. It doesn't ever give much detail, but she died when he was 16 or so and once you had seen the explanation for that a lot of things he did and said had better context. GOD I miss first season house. At least Chase & Cam are back on the team this year.
