Joshua Herdman reveals Deathly Hallows split, plot change
Several weeks ago, a not-for-profit Potter symposium (MuggleMayhem) was held in the UK, and MuggleNet's own Jamie Lawrence was present to participate in some of the events.
Actor Joshua Herdman, who plays Goyle in the Potter films, was one of several actors from the franchise who hosted a Q&A session at the event. He revealed some particularly interesting Deathly Hallows information with fans that is worth reporting.
First, Herdman said that the current plan was to split Deathly Hallows just after the trio are captured by the Snatchers and right before they are taken to Malfoy Manor. Many fans had speculated this is where the split would be, as it will provide quite a cliffhanger between films. Please note that - while this may be the current plan - the director and producers have made it clear that they could very well change where they had been thinking of splitting it if they thought a different point worked better after filming was complete.
Second, Herdman says that his character will be the one who dies instead of Jamie Waylett's character (Crabbe). This decision was made after Waylett was arrested and convicted of cannabis possession several months ago. Waylett is not expected to return for Deathly Hallows.

So, thoughts? On the split, on the conviction, on Goyle dying instead, etc. Also, if this has been posted - feel free to spam me with macros and gifs, I enjoy them. =P

Yeah. I liked HBP for what it was, despite some of the obvious bullshit that got fucked up, but I REALLY hope they don't screw these movies up too bad.

Date: 2009-08-26 09:52 pm (UTC)Really, I don't care. The movies are so completely different from the books anyway that they are two completely different things in my mind. Doesn't change that I still get angry when they cut out my favorite parts, or things that are absolutely necessary (FINAL BATTLE. FINAL BATTLE.), but meh. I'll just wait until the series is eventually, hopefully, made into an epic long mini-series. :]

And wait, aren't they keeping the final, final battle? That's why they said they didn't have it in the HPB film, cause the next book's final battle was more important to show and they didn't want it to be too repetitive (though honestly, I think they coulda handled it; they're two entirely different sorts of battles with majorly different agendas).

Date: 2009-08-27 01:04 am (UTC)I agree with them being distinctively different people... I kind of thought Goyle was kinder. But you know what, as long as it's in there, that's okay. XD

Date: 2009-08-26 10:45 pm (UTC)Sure it's going to spill anyway, but I understand why it's nice to dream.
IDK, they've already changed so much, I just kind of go along with it.
And honestly, if they didn't have names and one didn't die, would we really know any difference between Crabbe and Goyle?

Date: 2009-08-27 12:35 am (UTC)Rosencrantz and GuildensternCrabbe and Goyle aren't particularly distinct in my mind anyway, so I don't really care, to be honest. It would be different if they killed off the wrong Weasley twin. ;)That would be a decent place to split the movies. It's one of the few definite plot points in that part of the book. Hooray for cliffhangers, at least since I actually know that they'll get off the cliff! I'm still a little ticked off at where the Two Towers film ended (way to chicken out of a heart-stopping ending)... but not as much as I am at what Peter Jackson did to Faramir.

Date: 2009-09-01 04:51 pm (UTC)Oh wait. After countless lines being switched between characters, subplots left out, backstory gone missing, eye color of certain main characters mysteriously changing, and first kisses being hijacked...
I think we're used to this by now.
Here, have some chocolate.
