GUYS.

I just had the thought, is Captain Jack a Hufflepuff???

Like, I was thinking and considering (for no reason, but, well, you might see the reason in an hour or two...)

But yeah.

(ALSO, not that I'm spamming the main comm with things)

ETA: Harkness, not Sparrow :)

Oh no, I have a feeling this'll probably be very obvious to everyone else, but Captain Jack as in Doctor Who or Pirates? DDD:

& I'm sorry this is such a useless first comment, but I've just been wondering recently, is Dr Horrible a Hufflepuff? I was thinking Slytherpuff...

I would call Dr. Horrible a Slytherpuff with stronger Puff tendencies. :)

LOL OH JACK.

I've always seen him as a bit of Slytherdor.

Granted, I'm still new to Torchwood and all, but I'd thought he's rather Gryffindor. In a bad sense, though. Because he is rather reckless, proud, likes adventure and while he is "brave", he is also rather scary and ruthless at times. (He did scare me a little in that scene in "Countrycide" where he threatens to torture that bloke.)

But I can sort of see the Hufflepuff side too. So, I guess that leads to a critical question: which of the four Hogwarts houses have the most hopeless romantics in them?

Not after he's been such an IDIOT the one moment he shouldn't have been.
I think he's some kind of Slytherdor who would probably end up in Gryffindor if he was to be sorted since he has a lot of Gryffindor qualities, good and bad ones (when he isn't completely broken. Oh god, I'm still not over season 3!).
But it also depends on "what" Jack we're talking about. The one we first get to see in DW? Torchwood!seaonxy!Jack? Before or after End of the Universe? Etc pp.

(And Mickey is a kick-ass Hufflepuff!)

Jack is more Gryffindor I think, but Gwen could be a puff.

She shows up, does her job, and does her best. When she makes mistakes she does her best to fix them. The hard choice in CoE seemed to sit worst with her.

Ummm I think he was a Gryffindor in the DW Empty Child/Doctor Dances episodes but throughout the torchwood years morphed into quite the deranged Slytherin.

Or so my jaded view of him says since seeing the new miniseries.

I'd say Jack is a Gryffinpuff. He's very civically minded, and that still drives him. I mean, sure, end of Children of Earth is rather...still not sure what I want to say on that one...but he's interested in the greater good but NOT out of morality. So I think I might actually push him to the Puff side of it?

You know, I could see Hufflepuff being his main house, but his eternal life gives him the recklessness of a Gryffindor.

And he is very, ah, fond of loyal Torchwood employees >__>

He does understand justice, but he doesn't exactly live it out. I could see him being sorted in any of the other three houses, to be honest. He's extremely witty and clever, he's definitely impulsive, adventurous, and brave, and he's both ambitious and cunning.

Except I was talking about Sparrow.

Sas, first of all, I adore you for this.

That said...Jack can be argued to be either a Slytherin, a Gryffindor, or a Hufflepuff. I mean, Rose is a clear Gryffindor, Ten a clear Ravenclaw. Jackie and Mickey are both (commonly thought of as) Puffs (though I think that Mickey could go Gryffindor and Jackie could go Slytherin (but that's a discussion for another day)). So where does that leave Jack?!?

Personally, I'd make the same arguments for him ending up in Hufflepuff as I would for Barty Crouch, Jr. He does a lot of shady things, but ultimately, his work with Torchwood is, in his mind, a tribute to the Doctor. He's loyal to the Doctor, not to an ideal or to the bigger picture. He definitely has Gryff recklessness (though, if you're immortal, that's probably just part and parcel of life). But his methodology and his temperament are all as a result of his experience of and loyalty to the Doctor. In fact, he even says, "Doctor, I wish I'd never met you. I was better off a coward." It wasn't so much a Neville-esque coming into his own but his desire to please and be good to the Doctor that caused him to be brave. So yes, I think you can definitely make the argument for him as a Puff and I would say it's his primary house.

*steps off of soapbox*

(PS- How are we not friends yet? *sets off to remedy that*)

I love you for combining my two favorite fandoms into one LJ post.

I think that Captain Jack has strong qualities in all three houses(Gryffindor, Slytherin, and Hufflepuff), however, I think the predominant house for him is Gryffindor. I can see the loyalty of the Puffs and the ambition of the Slytherins, but for me he just fits into Gryffindor. He has the same hero feel and qualities as Harry.

I also have to say that if anyone embodies the house of Ravenclaw then it is David Tennant's Doctor. I also could just be a little partial...being a Claw myself.

Well, going off of a part of what Beckella mentioned before, Jack is completely different pre- and post-Doc, and also post-200-year-long-search-for-Doc. I'd say pre-doc entirely he's more slytherin, post-doc he's more gryffin/puff, and post-200 he seems to be reverting back to his sort of slytherin side... though there are large amounts of gryff in him. I would say he's loyal too but then again he's got priorities, and like what happened at the end of Day Five, if his loyalties and priorities start to clash, priorities win...

So, post-200 Jack in my opinion was strongly leaning towards a Gryffinpuff until Children of Earth. Perhaps it was the events of that that pushed him over the edge and back into his Slytherin-y state...? (Plus JB did state at some point that he viewed COE as Jack reverting back to how he was pre-doc almost)

p.s. YAY FOR TORCHWOOD/HARRY POTTER FANDOMS CLASHING. <3
