Again, see title.

So, is anyone named after anything? Be it cool or embarrassing?

Like, my name, Sas Sara is after Sara by Bob Dylan. Which is a lovely song. And my middle name, Elisabeth, is supposed to be after my nan, who my mum thought her name, Betty, was short for Elizabeth. Turns out it's not, she's just Betty.

So, anyone else?

omg you guys, so many replies! I need sleep, but you keep going!!

I'm not ACTUALLY named after anything according to my mom.... but my name is Karen and my mom really likes the Carpenters. So... yeah. I think that I'm secretly named after Karen Carpenter.

Strangely, we have very similar names. My Sara came from the Jefferson Starship song, though, and my middle name is Beth, also my mom's middle name, from her Aunt Betty.

I wish I had a cool story behind my name. My parents just wanted a Mediterranean sounding name for me (Alexandra) since our last name is Italian. Hmmmm, maybe I should make up a story for situations like this. *ponders*

No, but my mother changed my middle name because it was too "jewish", LOL. I DON'T KNOW WHAT THAT MEANS, I'M SORRY.

It would've been fun, though, because my flat mate's sister is also Mia, and my flat mate has the middle name I should've had. I'm not going to name it BECAUSE IDK WHAT "JEWISH" MEANS.

Any way, I'm named after no one. My parents wanted a name that was easy to spell, pronounce in different languages and would fit with a second sibling, so I'm Mia Isobel. My sister's Rhea Ros. She's got an awesome name.)

I'm Kimberly Diane.

The Kimberly was apparently the name of some soap opera actress that my dad thought was really pretty. Diane came from my grandmother insisting they name me after Princess Diana. Diane went better with the first name, thus, me.

My dad actually wanted to name me Barbara after this girl he went to high school with who became a nun. But my mother put her foot down. And to be honest, I'm glad. I like my name.

I'd love to be named for a Dylan song. Contrary to popular belief I was NOT named for the Beatles song, Michelle. It's just the feminine form of my father's name, Michael. My middle name, however, was Regina after my paternal grandmother. Unfortunately, my dad's side of the family pronounces it the German way (like the Canadian city) which rhymes with a female body part.

My parents named me after a movie character.

I no longer go by that name. Now, my middle name is a nod to my parents because it is the other name they had chosen for me.
My first name just came to me one day, and I knew instantly that it was the right one. I didn't name myself after anyone, at least not consciously.

I love that song ♥

Nicole is just a name my parents liked, but my middle name, Rochat, was my maternal great-great grandparents' surname. There's some well-known chef in Switzerland named Phillippe Rochat, but I don't know if we're distantly related, because in Vevey, and I guess in the canton of Vaud in general, Rochat is as everyday as Smith or Jones.

I love my middle name because there can't be that many people in the world who have it (my mum's the only one I know who also has it), and if I ever have a kid, regardless of gender, he or she is getting Rochat thrown in his or her name.

I'm Joyce Lynette and I maintain that it's my father's genetic roots trying desperately to lay claim to some aspect of my cultural heritage.

Joyce has Irish roots, and Lynette is Welsh, (my father's Scots-Irish), but my mother is Italian. Like hard-core. And so, my younger brother and I were raised in a world that resembled "My Big, Fat, Greek Italian Wedding" and "Everybody Loves Raymond". Seriously, I have an Uncle Vinny in upstate New York and everything. (And two cousin Vinny's out west in Ca., and four Uncle Tony's!)

So the only things "Isles" about me are my strange tendency to freckle (it's the only physical characteristic that isn't Italian), my affinity for the Irish pub and my name.

My mother wanted a baby boy named Michael. So she was so certain she was having a boy she didn't bother to have a girls name picked out.. Except Eve, she liked that.. However my aunt gave birth 4 months and 3 days before I was born and had a son, whom she named Adam. So thank God mom said no to Eve. XD

Therefore I got Michele (so friggin close to Michael that I get called Michael quite a bit) and my first name is a family name which I hate because I prefer Michele and nobody that I do business with uses my middle name. Ugh!

That would be my only story. XD I wished she'd just named me what she wanted to "Michael Baxter" the Baxter being after my grandfather who was like my dad.

Well Maaike is just a name my father in particular liked, and it's a usual Dutch name which follows my brothers (Martijn and Tom) and my sister (Saskia). My brothers especially have met a lot of people with the same name.
My middle name, Mirjam, refers to my grandmother on my mom's side, Maria. And my second middle name, Andrea, refers to my grandmother on my dad's side, Anna.
At first my full name would have been Maaike Andrea Mirjam, but then my initials would have been MAM, which means MOM in Dutch XD So my mom switched the names and thus I was named Maaike Mirjam Andrea :)

My parents were originally looking for male names before I was born, and they had decided on Matthew. Apparently that didn't work out as I am female, so they changed it to Melissa. Melissa means "honey bee" in ancient Greek (Hittite). As the legend behind the name goes, there once was a princess named Melissa who served young Zeus honey after she learned to collect it. To show his gratitude, Zeus changed her into a honey bee, which sealed her immortality. I don't think that my parents really cared about the story, or knew of it, when they named me though. ~ My middle name is Kendra, which means "keen power" (that is the most common meaning, though there are a few variations). Admittedly I never really liked this name (no offense to anyone who does), though because my parents love it, I wonder if it will ever grow on me.
