Hi guys!

Right, I've deposited the knuts for June! Go! Spend!

And, updates:

1. You can now turn images off on the site, in your filter options. It's a temporary solution whilst I work around a couple of issues.
2. I've not sorted out missing items yet. I'll probably do it later this evening though.

Identified areas of improvement:

3. Allow Diagon Mod to edit owned items.
4. Change owned_items page to display items for only one shop, or all shops. Let the user control which owned items they're viewing.
5. Allow users to register their own vaults
6. Sort the problem with viewing all columns on the items owned page
7. Allow users to 'destroy' (delete) items.
8. Group bought points into one item.
9. Allow names for pets & messages for street peddler items.

Now, is there anything else anyone else would like on the system? ALSO, would anyone be interested in skinning the site? That is, providing a different css style sheet than the one is uses. Basically, almost the whole layout, except for a couple of hardcoded things, are controlled with one CSS sheet, like most livejournal layouts are. Infact, they're extremely similar. I built it like that because, well, I thought it might be fun. Anyway. If anyone would like to try and create one (with the eventual idea that people could make their own layouts for the site, then please contact me. There's a lot of places that, well, might need some tweaking, so it'd need to be someone who has patience.)

ALSO. Can anyone see any other suggestions for things for the site? Or things that they would like fixed?

I've got one question, though: will the points bought from Shapadoinkles Shpadoinkleswhateverandever go away at the end of the month? Because my Owned Items list is long- I bought some 100 points for the luls to see it grow into eternity. (AND ALSO FOR RAVENCLAW!)

I don't have a suggestion right now, but I DO have a question - I have an activity pending that's supposed to start tomorrow, but it still hasn't gotten approved. Are you in charge of that, or are there a couple people who have to approve activities?

I love the changes! This is super. Also something that may be cool is having a bundle or bonus items for purchase. For example I have 5 books that you can purchase for DADA for bonus points and there could be an option on the page that is the DADA Book Bundle for 25 knuts or how ever much it cost.

That would be pretty nice, but I think that it might cause a few redundancy programs/slowness in the system. Although I understand at least a list of the items required is going to be added to the top of each page soon?

I cannot believe I am even doing this, but I just might be possibly volunteering to be interested in redoing the site's CSS. I've long thought it needed a facelift, and aside from the fact that I've already been tweaking CSS-based LJ layouts for a while now, this summer I started playing around with redoing my own website with CSS from scratch (here (http://webs.anokaramsey.edu/ennis/Default.htm)).

Well, I thought we could have quite a few in the end. But for trial purposes I thought we could do it like this:

I provide a copy of the sites css
I make it so you see the site using a different css sheet to everyone else
I hardcode a location for your css sheet, so you can play with it all you like?

What do you think? So you'd need webspace to hold the css sheet for the trial bits, but, well, yeah...

I'm a bit confused by a couple things. Okay, so there is a 'how many knuts you've earned' section. And when I added up everything I've spent on and how many knuts I have left (670, 295 respectively), that's 48 knuts shy of the 1013 I've supposedly earned total. And nothing's expired yet.

In conversation with Annalisa hecticity, we added up she's spent 712 knuts, has 1 left, but has earned 766 total according to her section of that, 53 knut difference.

So I was just wondering if there's an error in the system somewhere, either in adding how much we've earned or in depositing them...

Which how many knuts you've earnt section?

There should be one on your activity viewer, which lists how many knuts based on activities that have not been added to the points sheet yet.

There's the knuts on the knuts sheet generated at the end of each month.

Then, there's the knuts that are in your vault.

Which one are you talking about?

My suggestion might make your life a lot harder, so feel free to disregard with a smile and "Don't call us, we'll call you."

Is there any way we could sell items back to Diagon? Let's say you buy a cheaper item early in your HiH career and get the more expensive one later (like more expensive brooms for Quidditch for more points). You might want to get rid of the old one and get at least half your points back for something else. That'd be neat.

First can I just say thank you for the ability to turn off images.. That one saves my computer so very much. Hopefully i won't need saving much longer as I play to make my fiance buy me one LOL

Anyway 4 sounds amazing..

but I was wondering if it would be possible that when you go to edit a member we could view by houses? It would be a lot easier to tell who's left and who hasn't if say I compared that list with the list of current members of the house. The way it is.. I don't really know who's a puff and who isn't.

Yaaay this is so awesome. :) I'm excited. It all looks great. And being able to register your own vault and turn off images = DOUBLE WIN.

Suggestions:
1. Ability to name pets and owls. (Could be the same coding used for choosing a person for a CF card?)
2. Different "life" lengths for different animals, with prices adjusted accordingly. So a toad doesn't last nearly as long as a cat.
3. Figuring out an alternate name for animals expiring. I've had several people comment to me that having them die is horrifically depressing. XD Maybe we're "fostering" them because the shop is overfull and have to give them up when they get adopted? That would be so much less traumatic. XD (Petty thing, I know, but. :C)
4. A "shopping bag" feature would likely be a huge pain to code but would be convenient. People could play with adding/removing things to help budget their points before making a final purchase.
5. MESSAGING. Okay, super lame, but it would be neat to have a "send an owl" feature which you only get if you OWN an owl, and the sent message appears in the recipient's owned items list. Or just general gift giving and attaching messages to gifts would be lovely. (If you want people to work for their stuff, you could say any individual can not RECEIVE or GIVE more than x knuts worth per month.)
6. This may be too much work for everyone, but it may be neat to have a link to the activity on the activity's page once it goes up, and have an ability to list activities which points have not been submitted for to see what's going on? IDK. So one click shows you all the current activities at HiH (like, just going by dates submitted).

Umm.. that's all I can think of site-wise, I think. XD

And as I have some time off, I'd be happy to try my hand at creating a skin for the system. :) I coded my own journal and some others (cigamerisedi for example) and I take perverse delight in tweaking things and figuring out those little frustrations, so!

#1 was totally meant to be on the list.
#2&3 you'll have to talk to the diagon mod about those ones, I just cover the system side :)
#4 Is...way too much, not so much too much, but there are so many ways that could go wrong in the flows. Maybe if I have some time.
#5 Messaging via owls sounds pretty cool. You know, you could set it that you can send messages if you've got an owl and these come up as email messages for the person receiving, just, through the system. Hm.
#6 You can do that? With the 'activity viewer'??

Also, sure, if you'd like to try, just provide me a link where you can host an external style sheet, and I'll give you a copy of the current one and hardcode it so that you view the site using the one at the url you've provided? What do you think?

I love the ideas for all these changes! Wtg. One question though, when I go to the diagon page, there's no option for me to leave a comment in the shops. The other posts like the vaults and items owned do, but not the shops and now I can't buy stuff =[ Any idea what's wrong?

Diagon's now totally on the The System. Tghe System being http://hih.leaky-sponge.com.

Basically if you'd slike to buy something, just find it on the system, e.g. http://hih.leaky-sponge.com/shops.php?shop=Ollivanders

And just, hit buy, it automatically deducts.

The prefects probably need to rewrite their newbie guides and post reminders in their respective common rooms to the not-so-newbies of us. I'm getting a lot of messages from people who have been around for a while but don't seem to have actually seen either this post or the first one. I know I missed this one in the middle of all the drama...

There is a hazard to #7... I can see a lot of problems cropping up for people who accidentally delete something that they don't want to delete, which would mean that the moderator (whoever that may be) would need to fix it. It might be more practical to leave those kinds of changes up to the moderator in the first place, to prevent that kind of headache.

If you need more than one person to work on CSS for the site, I can give it a go. I can't guarantee that my images would be the best, but it'd be interesting to work on something other than an LJ style.
