"Join [info]hih_animagus and apply to become an animagus today" = you will become an animagus today if you apply.

"Join [info]hih_animagus and apply today to become an animagus" = apply today to become an animagus.

On the one hand, yes, it is a misplaced modifier.
On the other, I was trying to allude to the eighteen billion commercials which typically end with "Come on down to [store] and [action] today!"

But in general, I am possibly one of the last people on the internet whose grammar needs correcting. Do it again and I'll swat you. :D
