First, I want to thank all of you for your participation so far this weekend! This debate is turning out pretty awesome, and some people are just.. tearin' it up. Way to go, guys and gals. :) I'm glad to see that you all are getting into it!
Buuuut.. we've got a couple of things that we need to keep in mind:
1. Please please pleaaaase make sure that you are putting your name and house at the bottom of each post. I am -not- counting your comment if you don't. If you forget it, just delete the entire comment and repost it. I'm screening and counting each and every comment as it appears in my inbox, so if I get one without a name, it's deleted from my inbox.. even if seconds later I get a comment on that particular comment that only says a name and house. I know it may be annoying, but it's helping to make sure that everyone gets the correct amount of points.
2. Please also make sure that you're arguing on the right side. We've had more than one person arguing the Master instead of Disaster or vice versa. Your points were excellent, but they didn't count.
3. Prefects, please make sure that your house is reminded of today! We always have limited participation from Slytherin and Ravenclaw, and while I'm not saying that they aren't coming in because of the Prefects.. it would be nice if you guys could do me a favor and harp a bit. ;)
Other than that.. let me know if any of you have questions! Thanks!
~ Melinda

Date: 2005-03-20 10:34 pm (UTC)Yeah.. with Ravenclaw, we tend to have hardly any participants.. but the ones who -do- participate just rip it up. I mean like.. ten comments per person or something crazy like that.

Date: 2005-03-20 11:05 pm (UTC)Out of curiosity, when someone has their argument refuted and then reposts the same argument as a response, does that count for points? I've never understood the finer aspects of debating.

Date: 2005-03-20 11:09 pm (UTC)Now.. when you say repost the same argument.. do you mean like they say "I like apples. They are red and shiny, and very healthy.", get a reply of "No, oranges have been scientifically proven to be much better for you.", then, as a rebuttal, they reply with "I like apples. They are red and shiny, and very healthy." Like.. the same exact comment twice?
Or do you mean more like they are replying with practically the same information, presented in a different way?
