from the Leaky Cauldron.... Marketing professor says: "Only the Hufflepuffs are totally loyal to Harry, the Gryffindors are already moving on to other things, the Slytherins never really liked him anyway and the Ravenclaws are too busy writing their own fan fiction or posting spoof videos on YouTube."....

Truth.
Gryffindor' readers are eager and energetic and will devour the latest Potter book in one sitting, but quickly move on to new things.

I have moved on to four new fandoms since, but I'll always come back to Harry...

iawtc. I'm new to the fandom, but one day I will not be new and I, too, will move on to something shinier.

So, if I think both canon and fandom have their worth...does that make me a Ravenpuff? xD

That's interesting and pretty funny! I'm not sure that I buy the "just a fad" thing, though. To society as a whole, it probably will just pass like many other things, but there'll always be that base of hardcore fans who will never let the series go. Heheh.

It's interesting. One could even devise Sorting around this analysis...

Anyway, I think this is typical of all fandoms, and definitely not all are treated the same.

...while 'Slytherin' readers are not fussed about the books. They prefer the films but pretend to have read the books when it suits them...

Er. Well.

Umm . . . well, I haven't posted any spoof videos yet.

Psh. I don't even really like the movies (except for the hotness that is DanRad), and I read the first four books before I ever saw one of the movies. Plus I've read all of the books at least five times each.

I also am fiercely loyal (dorky) and am so involved in my pet ship that they call me "Our Lady of AS/S." I mod three communities, and I co-created a hugely successful fest that pulled many new people into the ship.

I call BS on this.

*pouts*

Not sure I agree with the stereotyping, but I guess he isn't far off. But think of all the people sorted Snake who know a bunch about HP. I dunno, if he's using JKR's stereotypes that would make sense but die hard fans who do this kind of sorting stuff...I'm not sure that's accurate at all.

I disagree completely, but that's just 'cause I think he's completely barmy and could've cited some canon. All in all, it's rather crass stereotyping. I think if someone identifies as any one of the four houses they are loyal to Harry Potter and Co. Equally, I don't think creating things based on Harry Potter a Ravenclaw trait as it is. Otherwise we'd be the only house writing fics and that would be really boring.

I also read the books in a Gryffindor way: all in one day, from start to finish without breaks. One summer I even reserved three days for a Harry Potter marathon and read all five of the books in something like 32h with only 5h of sleep and fifteen minutes of food. FUN TIMES!

I also find the statements sweeping and without real insight, not to mention untrue. Why would a Slytherin type reader only like the films? What quality of Slytherin dictates that? His classifications have nothing to do with the house characteristics as I know them. But I guess I had better get to grips with the how to of Youtube...

I read the Gryffindor way, write fanfiction like a 'Claw, but I'md goign t be with Harry forever like the Puffs (Huff! Huff! Hufflepuff!).

He doubted JK Rowling's books had the staying power of an author like Roald Dahl, and predicted: "It could come back into fashion but I think it could be like many fads and just fade away and people will look back and say 'Why did we ever read this stuff?'"

Who was he interviewing? I know I'm NEVER going to leave and I don't think those of us die-hard enough to get sorted in an lj comm would...

Hm. Since the fandom has become popular, I've had to read the books all at once, his definition of a Gryffindor reading. If I don't, someone will be a jerk and spoil it for me, like the LJ icons that went around with "On page (whatever), Snape kills Dumbledore."
