Hello fellow students. Not sure if this is appropriate, but I keep mulling over the idea of starting an "irl" HiH type club at my college, and I'm wondering how that might work...? I have a bit of experience running school clubs in High School, so the idea sort of interests me. Just a club of HP enthusiasts who are "sorted" upon joining and engage in various competitive activities, maybe...? I'm wondering if enough people would actually join.

Good idea y/n? And any suggestions? Has anyone else done something similar at their school?

YES PLEASE! It would be awesome! They have a Literature class here in my University that does that.

Well, it's a class, so all the activities they do are held within an hour and thirty minutes for two days in a week. They have to limit all their activities to class hours, so it might not be as awesome as an all-out HP Club like you're planning.

I don't really know what they do in it, but if I could, I WOULD take that class, yes.

:D

It's an elective for Literature (all Liberal Arts majors have to take the course, but they get to pick between HP, JRR Tolkien, etc.)

Good luck, dear! :) I'm sure it would be awesome if you could get a lot of people to join you. ^^

I have to admit that I wouldn't join anything like that. I'm honestly just too... lazy? That's not really the right word, but if I'm not at home, I'd rather be out doing stuff. I do stuff like HiH because there's no place else to be at 2am.

But it looks like plenty of other people are interested, so hey. I'm just curious if you would get a lot of one or two houses just because, well, not to overgeneralize or anything, but some houses are more likely to get into stuff like this irl than others.

Well I know some schools have recreational Qudditch. IT could be done I'm sure.

a bunch of seniors at my school did a giant quidditch match on Halloween - it was pretty epic, until someone lost the snitch. xD

Some people play it differently. Really bold people play it on bikes, but more people play it on ground. Basically you're goal posts are made up of PVC pipes and hula hoops. For Quaffle sometimes people use frisbees (Think like Ultimate Frisbee), basketballs, and volleyballs, or dodgeballs even. Beaters can tackle people (not seeker or keeper usually), or they could use dodgeballs or nerfballs. (Especially if the player has to freeze for a few seconds after being hit). The snitch can be a person running around a large designated area, several flagged people and only one of them is a snitch so players have to tear off flags until they find the real snitch, or my favorite an RC plane controlled by a neutral person.

I'd love to play someday.

i ran a couple groups while in college and while interest at first can seem phenomenal as the semester and year goes by people tend to let go of certain clubs due to studies and other interest. I found that the clubs that retained memberships were the Greeks, clubs that revolved around cultures and clubs that had houses and required members who lived in said houses (or floors) to meet a requirement to live in the club space. In my case the student body wanted a yearbook there were many interested parties every year but in reality the staff consisted of four people who toiled endlessly to put out a book every year because everyone else was to busy or no longer had the time to put into the organization. While the sorority I was in and another club i was prez of required members to meet certain criteria to be part of or retain housing privileges. I'm not saying don't try because you never know what kind of response you will get, I'm just sharing my own observations.
