Anyway, I want to thank all of you for your participation!! 120+ comments?! Amazing!!

Expect the results to be posted by this weekend. It'll take me a bit to make sure all of the posts are correct and all. :)

That was truly awesome! I really enjoyed myself, but I feel exhausted... Can't wait to see the outcome. :)

Thanks for such an engaging topic.

I couldn't help myself! I love to argue. To the point that I don't even care what side I am arguing for.

Excellent debate. *applauds*

Don't worry about tallying everyone's knuts yet -- they won't be able to deposit them anyway. :)

Great topic! I think it was a really interesting debate.

lol, I know you have to be all impartial, but could you give the Ravenclaws the easy side next time? ;D It's hard to argue a position you don't believe in!

Yeah, that's a fair plan. lol, we can't always have the easy side I guess.

Just wondering--will it always be the Puffs and Claws against the Slyths and Gryffs?

I do think it would be a bigger pity if the teams never changed.
Maybe you could do it on the occasion of a debate like the last one about the MOM? I personnally didn't feel like one side was really more easy than the other, both had arguments in their favor (I wouldn't advise doing it with a subject like the banning of HP books because you would hear the shrieks of outrage from here to Alaska, I bet).

And will people really be that unhappy? Don't they know the best fun in a debating club is arguing in favor of the side whith which you don't agree with? That's intellectual gymnastic... *let's her inner Ravenclaw rave a bit*
Ahem.
And it's a debate. On Harry Potter. On the Internet. I hope people don't take this that seriously. O_o

Oh, but this is the Harry Potter fandom. We take everything seriously.

;D j/k

My roommate reminded me of that after I was explaining the debate to her. After I mentioned how I was using Leviathan to justify my position, she gave me this odd look and told me she was taking away my computer time this weekend so I could go out and have a life. o.O

Well, I'm all for some good quality debates, but gawds! we're people fooling around with HP - which is fun, and should reamain good fun and not be spoiled by angsting about the subjects for debating time! ^-^

Ah, Hobbes. It's been ages since I've read him. Though my philosophy teachers used to be a bit snobbish about him and make us read La Boëtie in parallel to Hobbes :D

I think the problem is, last time we had a debate, there were some serious complaints about how uneven the sides were, so this time, [livejournal.com profile] meli_p worked hard to make sure the sides who got the hard subject last time didn't get it this time. Although it SHOULD be all in fun (and it's one of the rules!), some people took it too seriously the last time, and started some unfortunate drama over the topic.

Oh dear, I hadn't realised there was some angst about this subject before, I'm a bit too new to this community. Poor [livejournal.com profile] meli_p, trying to keep the hoards of crazy people in check :D

it SHOULD be all in fun (and it's one of the rules!)

Personnally, I just love the idea of facing people in RL and at their question about what I've been up too, thinking: "Well, I sorted some folks into Hogwarts, and then I defended Cornelius Fudge's honor". ^-^

I'm pretty sure she gave the Ravenclaws/Hufflepuffs the harder one this time because last time she gave the Gryffs/Slytherins the side that was PRO banning Harry Potter books... which... for all of us here, is definitely the harder side. So don't worry, she wasn't just picking on the Ravenclaws because she knew how smart they all are ;) Safe to say, she's definitely keeping it fair :)
