[identity profile] maegwin-of-hern.livejournal.com posting in [community profile] hogwartsishome
Hi, I'm not a very active member in this community, neither am I in [livejournal.com profile] platform_934. This is due to a whole bunch of work I have going on right now, sorry. Anyways, this morning, I took the time again to look at an application, which has apparently been edited because the answers had been too short before (here's the link).
I totally understand why people said "No Vote" as long as the answers were so short. I don't have a problem with that, really. But I just don't understand why it is necessary that 17 people say basically all the same, "No Vote until you elaborate more". Don't you think she might have gotten the hint after the first two or three already? It's just not necessary, that's all I'm saying.

The reason why there are 17 people saying that is because people get points for voting. Giving the vote of "no vote" still counts as a vote...and if the applicant happens to not edit the application...the No Vote votes are still tallied as people taking the time to actually vote. So yes...there will be a lot of No Vote comments....because of that reason.

Do we get house points for a "no vote"? I wasn't sure, that's why I voted that way. If we do get points, its not fair that we miss out just because someone didn't follow the rules (and might never). And I don't feel it was bad enough to justify a muggle vote.

If we don't get points, I'm more than happy to accept your argument.

No, I'm pretty sure you get points.

And remember, it doesn't justify a muggle vote unless they're pushing for a house... just incase you weren't sure. I figure you know, but just clarifying, since it confuses me sometimes xD

Heh, or I could have just read Juppy's comment and saved myself the time I took pondering the "do we get points" bit...

Yep, I saw that *just* after I'd commented. *blushes* Ah well, I'd have commented anyway.

On points for voting...

I personally think that getting points for actually stating that one is NOT voting is a major bug in our voting system...

I'd say, if the answers of an application are too short, but don't deserve a Muggle vote, there should really be NO vote al all. A moderator could then, let's say after 24 hours, post a comment to call for an edit... How about that?

Sometimes I use the No vote option when I sense a house push. I think we need it.

You can vote 'Muggle' if you think someone is house pushing here. =)

Yes, well apparently, some of us vote muggle too much and overreact to the slightest hint of Slytherin in an application...

I'm not risking another lecture. I'll stick to No Vote.

We get votes for No Vote? Seriously?

Anyways, I put "No Vote" because I take the time to read the application, and don't want to leave without writing SOMETHING. And generally I remember to go back if I put "No Vote."

Actually, I think sometimes it helps to "no vote" someone - what I mean is that there are applications which some find the elaboration sufficient, while others don't. If the majority of voters leave that as their opinion, then hopefully the applicant will get the idea and add more info.

Everyone else has already explained the voting system and the purposes for giving the "No Vote", but I'd like to point out that this post is against the community rules. Questions and general complaints are to be brought to the moderators. For reference: FAQ #8 (http://www.livejournal.com/community/hogwartsishome/43727.html#cutid1)

Since this is the first time it's happened since the FAQ was put up, I'll let you off with a warning.
