Stamping?

When are those of us that are waiting to get our final approval for our stamped character going to get them? Its been over a week since I have received anything in regards to the process and would just like to know when I might get some sort of closure on this.

And if the moderators of [livejournal.com profile] hh_writersblock and [livejournal.com profile] hh_sugarquill could give me their writing prompts for the month of November by Wednesday for the first issue of The Daily Prophet, I would greatly appreciate it or your new prompt won't get in until the middle of the month and will only get one viewing. I would greatly appreciate it.

If you check the [livejournal.com profile] hh_stamping page, you can see the mod is under some stress right now. She specially organized this stamping run for us, since there was no properly scheduled time. So give her a chance. I'm sure she'll have it done when she can do it. :-)

Then waiting another few days surely won't cause the world to implode. An Officials position simply can't override a new work position, no matter how much one loves HiH and its members. I mean, unless you want to start paying HiH Officials wages -- and I'm all for it if you do want to take that option! ;-)

Until such marvellous happenings, HiH is like a holiday from reality, which has to be taken in spare time, so! We do our best, and hope it's enough to satisfy everyone.

Okay, that's kind of insulting. It takes several hours to count votes and points, stamp people, and update all the lists. Sure, it takes a few seconds to stamp one person, but I have 36 people to stamp tonight.

I have a full time job, own and run several communities outside of HiH and every once in a while, I like to step away from the computer. I'm sorry that there's not enough at HiH to keep you entertained on a daily basis, but that is hardly our problem. I am the first to admit that I'm sure I could do more here, but that would mean sacrificing other things that are more important to me. HiH is not the most important thing in my life, but I do like it, so I strive to do a good job.

For what it's worth, if you are looking for a free graphics program, you could check out the GIMP (http://www.gimp.org/). There are some good tutorials for it floating about.

OS 10.3.9 is above OS 10.3. So, yes, GIMP does work. It says so directly on the GIMP website, which you can find by googling "gimp". There are other free graphics programs with layer-support for OSX, as well, all of which can be found quite easily with Google.

I'm not sure about the Mac requirements. :\

But have you thought about taking up crafting? Or volunteering somewhere? That might help fill up your time. It's not as consuming as a job, but it may help. :)

Why can't the mods make sure that there are regular activities?

Because this is a hobby. We do what we can to make a fun community. And I think every official does everything we can do. We are aware that we've made committments and we do the best that we can, without sacrificing our lives. It's a lot of work, and it's important to us, but it is still unpaid work and not vital. It gets fit into our schedules when we can fit it in, not when other people are bored.

A lot of us are bored more often than we want to be, but HiH is meant to be fun. People are doing this stuff to entertain, and because it's not paid work, it has to be on a volunteer, free-time basis. I know it's hard to wait when you're so into a new community -- I must have checked my e-mail 800x a day when I was first being sorted. But you have to remember that people have jobs and school, etc. first, and they can't change the fact that you don't have something else to do. This cannot be everybody's first priority. I am sorry you're bored, but you gotta chill out and have fun. There are a lot of people younger than the both of us here and the last thing I'd like to do is show them that being angry is how to get things done, y'know?

The dullness of your days does not entitle you to rush those who do have other things to take care of. Your boredom is not their responsibility. They're doing the best they can, and they've stated that.

Astronomy club posted an activity this morning! You could spend some time doing that one if you're bored. :)

We'd love to have some more activity.

Jayne... the sugarquill prompt will be up. Needless to say, I'd link it regardless. :)

Hi Melissa...

It seems right now that real life has been hitting hard for a lot of people who are involved with HiH. It doesn't help you in having things to keep you entertained and occupied, but it is an unfortunate fact of life.

So this old man is going to throw out some suggestions to you, because I do remember what it was like to be young, bored and wishing someone would hire you for a job. Honestly, my first reaction to "stupid book for some stupid book club with my friends" was it was sad that someone didn't have a love of reading. I read voraciously when I was younger. It's part of why I love the Harry Potter books, they were the type of stories I loved reading. If you think a book is stupid, then you're reading the wrong book. There is a whole lot out there. Your public library is a good place to start and it won't cost you anything to borrow those books.

I'll also second the suggestion for looking into crafting. Knitting is my personal hobby and I've been doing it for nearly 20 years. A true Harry Potter fan wears their own hand knit version of the house scarf, and we are usually smug that our scarf looks os much better.

You might also want to keep in mind that when term 9 ends the HiH communities will be looking for officials for term 10. It's a great way to get involved and contribute to the communities. Earlier this year, when I was unemployed and looking for work I was Hufflepuff prefect. It gave me time away from the job hunt and a needed break doing something I enjoyed. I highly recommend you look into an officials position for the next term. We can always use new blood with enthusiasm.

Good luck with it all and let us know what you decide to try out.

If you're for lack of books that you actually like, please try and remember that you're in Ravenclaw. We have a book rec library for you to check out if you're really that bored. I get that you're frustrated but that's no excuse to take it out on others who have done nothing to deserve it. Take a chill pill, please.

I know this is random and has very little to do with the point of your comment, but I love knitting!

You should really cut them a break. People have lives outside the internet and while job hunting sucks, there are other ways of spending your time than moping or complaining that HiH doesn't have enough to keep you occupied. There's so much stuff all over the place on this comm, I find it hard to believe that you can't find something from what's already there, really.

Why don't you give NaNoWriMo a shot? Or go out and see a movie and get away from the internet for awhile. There's life that's passing you by out there, employment challenged or not. But you really shouldn't take it out on those people with more on their plate than just this comm. =\

Um, Jayne, you haven't done everything that HiH has to offer. So, please, take a harder look around. I'm one of the Animagus mods, and you haven't filled out a form to become a registered animagus yet. So, why don't you take the time to do that. Surely it'll take you thirty minutes to an hour and a half to accomplish this. Plus, you'll make that my third application, and I'll be able to post a batch up on Friday! Look! I've solved your boredom problem! So, head over to [livejournal.com profile] hih_animagus if you'd like!
