Quick question for those of you that have gone at midnight, if I get there at midnight or a little later how long is it going to take me to actually buy my book?

Most bookstores have wristbands that they give out, and depending on what number your wristband is determines where you are in line and how long you have to wait.

It may take longer if it's a larger bookstore with a lot of people, as well.

Depends on the bookstore... if you plan on going when you are, you're going to wait QUITE awhile.

For OotP I made the mistake of going at 11:30 and didn't get my book until 2:30 or around that time.

I checked for DH and they already started giving wristbands at 9:00am... I went at 8:45 and I'll still have around 100 maybe 150 people in front of me.

It does vary from store to store, so your best bet is to call where you plan to go to. I'm going to Barnes & Noble, they are giving out bracelets to reserved names starting at 7:00 pm, but their release party does not start until 9:00 pm. You can go get your bracelet then come back at 11:30 and they will start calling numbers at midnight. After all the reserved numbers are called they will call numbers for those who didn't have a reserved book.

For Half Blood Prince we did not reserve copies. We went to the party around 9 or 10 pm, it took about an hour before they went through all the reserved ones.

I went to the midnight release party at Book People last year. We showed up and got in line around 10pm (no wrist bands or numbers or anything) and got our books by around 12:30. I highly, highly, highly recommend showing up EARLY (they will have fun things to entertain you until you get your book if they're a decent bookstore).

About an hour ago, I had no idea how my bookstore was handling the release.

Barnes and Noble (at least in my town) hands out wristbands at 6pm, but only the first 400 people can go to the midnight party. At 9pm, the party starts. At 12am, they start calling numbers. I think they give wristbands to those who preordered first and then those who didn't. I'm not sure.

If your bookstore's the same, it might be awhile unless you get there for the wristband.

I work at a Barnes and Noble and here is what I've been telling people, we call people up by their wristbands. But if you get there at midnight you will just have to go behind all the others. This could mean getting the book at 12:30 or getting the book at 1:00. Depends on how fast the chaseirs are and how many people came in earlier.

Last time we had people out of there by 12:30 apperently(I wasn't working there at the time but I did go, but got my wristband early). All depends. I would highly suggest just going and getting a wristband and then just coming back at midnight.

Random and somewhat related, but I worked at Hastings when 5 came out and I was still checking out books at 2 a.m. BUT, I know some stores are closing earlier than that. We did manage to sell over $10,000 in JUST HP5 books that night. :D WOOT.

i won't be getting a book (even though i pre-ordered it)... broke :( but i'll be at the library first thing to get a copy from new books! my mom thinks my priorities are screwed. though... lol... i won't do morning appointments if i can avoid them, but i'm waking up to be one of the first people to get the new hp book! but to my credit, the library's only a 5-10 minute walk from where i live vs a bus ride some place... i pick going to the library any day!
