Date: 2007-07-22 02:44 am (UTC)The epilogue was slightly on the corny side, but I lap that up anyway. I broke down crying at the opening of it, with the diamond-checkered background. Just seeing that was enough to get me going. And, of course, I cared very little for the affairs of Harry and Ginny, as Ginny was and remains one of my less favored characters, but had yet another failure at keeping tears back when Harry mentioned the name Albus Severus. Acknowledging his bravery was a complete necessity, since it wasn't brought up quite as much as I'd anticipated during that last little chat with Dumble.
Overall, I wasn't sure I liked the direction it went in the beginning, but looking back on it there is absolutely no way another ending would have fit.

Date: 2007-07-22 11:39 pm (UTC)And I accept H/G, but I wish JKR hadn't written it. x.X She's not good with romance. Or epilogues.
Part I
Date: 2007-07-22 06:30 am (UTC)2. Fred: There are no words to say how I felt when he died.To let George live, and Fred die was just cruel and wrong, IMO. I cried of course. I really wish that she didn't kill him off, and I can't say that I really understand why she did, I don't think that it brought anything to the book. Making him loose an ear earlier in the book was enough, but to go ahead and then kill him? Not fair!
3. Lupin & Tonks: I love that they have a son, Teddy, and that he can change his hair color and everything just like Tonks. When they made Harry godfather, it was great. Killing off both of them made me think of James and Lilly and how they died, with a baby that will never grow up to know his parents. Lucky for him, he has a great godfather just like Harry had. Once again, very sad. I loved that Teddy was able to change his hair color just like Tonks and the image of him with turquiose hair made me laugh.
4. Hedwig & Dobby: Why??? The fact that Harry refused to use magic to dig Dobby's grave was very touching. And she could have kept Hedwig alive.
5. Mad Eye Moddy: The last person I expected to die. He seemed so strong and invicible and for him to die, and for him to be the first one, was really shocking and depressing, both at once.
6. Percy: I love how he returns to his family. In the past books I've had doubts if he will return or not, and I'm glad that he returns. I'm glad that he finally woke up and returned, I really am.
7. Snape: I'm not sure how much I like him. While we do see that he was acting under Dumbledore's orders this whole time, and it was Dumbledore who told him to use the decoys whn getting Harry out of 4 Pivet Drive, I still can't like him. I'm happy that he died. When I heard he was appointed Headmaster I was all "WTF" and feared the worse for Hogswarts.
8. The Seven Harry Potters: Love it. It was a great idea andit worked...plus, 7 danRadcliffes in the movie???? Hot!
Re: Part I
Date: 2007-07-23 08:40 am (UTC)I couldn't believe Dobby died. I read Mugglenet.com's book, "What Will Happen in Harry Potter 7" and they had him first on the list as least likely to die, lol. Didn't see it coming at all. I kept waiting for Hermione or Ron to die.
Part 2
Date: 2007-07-22 06:31 am (UTC)10. Harry's thought about godfathers: When he thinks that he is going to be as reckless as a godfather to Teddy as Sirius was to him I laughed. Hard.
11. The epilouge: Cheesy and so not what I've came to expect from J.K. Rowling. Ugh.
12. Voldermort: This book made me hate him even more...at least Harry killed him. Him taking over the Ministry of Magic was awesome, even though it made it harder for Harry it really brought a dark element to the book that I enjoyed.
13. Dumbledore: I really don't know what to think. I think the fact that he realized what he did wrong, and did everything he could to prevent being given power as he got older made up for what he did, at least to some extent. While it won't bring his sister back, it's better the if he showed no regret. I love the chapter when it's him and Harry talking while Harry is in between life and death.
14. Neville: It was great to see him emerge from the shy, clumsy boy he once was to a leader. The part about his grandmother made me laugh also.
15. Kreacher: I love how he came to love Harry Potter I really did..but seeing him lead the house elves was just to weird for me.
16. Harry: First off the image of him as a 1 year old flying around on a toy broom was adorable. I have to say, I'm very impressed with him throughout this book, how he handle everything. From trying to discourage Ron and Hermione from going with him, to Ron's rejection, to accepting him back, finding the Horcuxs, dealing with the truth about Dumbledore, Snape and even his mother, believing he was going to die and knowing that he would go through with it because it was the best for everyone else, he handled himself very well.
17. Lily & Snape: I didn't realize that they knew each other before Hogwarts. Interesting. I don't blame Lily for how she felt about him though.
All in all, I liked the book :)

Date: 2007-07-22 06:31 am (UTC)What a great book. So intense, so full on. It was relentlessly dark and hard. You could feel the fear and the strain in the air and the tension just kept building and building. I felt the epilogue was fantastic. Just what was needed after 600 pages of non stop darkness. I big sugary blob of cookie dough to end off the book, fantastic.
I am so sad that Fred is gone. I can't even begin to imagine poor Goerge on his own. It breaks my heart.
As for Snape...I LOVE HIM. I knew he would die but it doesn't make it any easier. The Lilly/Snape thing was tragic but brilliant. They were never going to be together but he loved her anyway. It made more sense why he hated Harry so much too. He was the product of Lillys love for another man. The mirror of James and even though he couldn't stand Harry all he wanted was to make sure he was safe for Lilly.
I am so sad its over. I feel so lost.

Date: 2007-07-22 09:53 am (UTC)I loved Ron in it. I hated that Fred died. It broke my heart.
I still don't like Snape. I don't feel sorry for him either. He had a great friendship with Lily that could have become more. He made a choice and lost her. He didn't protect Harry because it was the right thing to do he did it because of Lily. If he had opened his eyes and seen that Harry was more like Lily than James maybe things could have been different.
I love Neville and Luna in this book. I think they both really shined. I would have loved to have known what happened to them in their personal lives.
I liked the epilogue. I don't think it was cheesy or anything. I think people forget she wrote I think before the first book was published.

I burst out laughing then, and at a few other parts... like when I read about Draco's son... SCORPIUS.

My favorite funny moment was when Hermione was totally beating up Ron and screaming about him leaving...the images you get from that..hahaahaa.

But yay for explaining the "gleam of triumph"!

Date: 2007-07-23 11:40 am (UTC)Draco expelliarmused Dumbly in book, shortly before he died. The Elder Wand then belonged to Draco, because he bested Dumbly (even though Snape killed him, Draco did the work by ensuring Dumbly couldn't do anything). So, Draco has the Elder Wand. In book seven, Harry expelliarmused (I think, or at least he took away) Draco's wand from Draco- besting Draco and making HIM the owner of the Elder Wand. Voldy tried to kill Harry with the Elder Wand, but no wand wants to kill his owner- so that didn't work.
As for Lily/Harry's eyes- it's Snape's love that's important to Harry's survival. Harry has Lily's eyes and that reminds Snape of his promise. Wasn't it cute how Snape wanted Harry to look into his eyes while he was dying. ^_^; I thought that was cute.
And, uh, the gleam of triumph? Did I miss something? :)

Date: 2007-07-28 09:13 am (UTC)I have finished!!
Date: 2007-08-11 02:40 am (UTC)These are my initial reactions to the book. I will post them in my own journal, to share with my other friends who aren't HiHers. But you guys are the first ones. (:
What a wild ride. What a great, wild, nail-biting, victorius, uproriously laughing, dangerous, emotional, fun, wild ride. I don't think I could have ever asked to read a greater series of books than those of Harry Potter. Jo has, not only brought me into Harry's world, his friendships, rivalries, wants and needs, but into the friendship of others who are just as enamoured (or obsessed? ;P) with the series as I am. Thank you, for being friends. That is one of my greatest pleasures in life- making friends. (: In turn, it has made the friendships I had before all the more stronger. She'll never read it (or maybe she will- I don't know) but thanks, Jo.
I suppose I'll start with the end, as it's where I left off. XD
The epilogue was totally surreal. I never expected her to use the names in tribute to those who had them before. It caused quite some confusion for my visual brain to comprehend the entire scene (though I managed to do so by the end). I kept imagining chibi Albuses and Lillys and all the others. Wow. Harry and Ginny have been busy. *laughs despite herself( And Draco's son? Scorpius? *quirks brow* Wonder what'll become of him? Hmmm. Interseting name.
AND!! IF, YOU ADDED THE 19 YEARS TO 1998?!?!?!?!? 2007!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! 2007!!!!! THIS YEAR!!!! THIS SEPTEMBER!!
*flails about and screams from her excitement*
I so want to be a teacher at Hogwarts. (Makes me proud to be one, though I have mostly my students to thank for that. (: )
I truly believed that Harry would live. I was in that camp for a while. But believe me, during Chapter 34 I was totally cursing Jo out, 'cause she had me believing that Harry was going to die. I didn't want it- not one bit. But once I read the bit about the Resurrection Stone, I was laughing, laughing, laughing. I knew. But somehow, I'm still unsure if that's the reason how Harry managed to live in the first place. It's a little confusing. And the baby... I still haven't figured that out yet. Don't tell me- I'd like to solve that one for myself. *grins*
Oddly, I am not grieving as much for Lupin and Tonks as much as I thought I would. Though Lupin is by far, my favourite character of the series, I am saddened by his death. However, I don't think it affected me too much, because SOMEONE used a spoilery icon over at Hogwarts icon stating "RIP" and had Hedwig, Dobby, Lupin, Tonks (and maybe others) written all over it. I really didn't want to believe it, but it was true, after all. I think I was the sadddest, when Hedwig died. I made a large donation to the National Audubon Society this month in her memory. Also, I think too, because of that epilogue, I am not quite as sad as I could be. The future of Harry's world, Jo's and our universe, has been left w i d e open for us to revel in. And I love that. I really do. I love believing in the future, that things will turn out well in the end. *laughs* And the last word was so, totally not scar. (LOLOLOLOLOL......) But everyone's spoofs were great, I loved them all. :3
to be continued...
Part Deux
Date: 2007-08-11 02:41 am (UTC)Teddy Tonks... oo-boy. He's going to be a handful, I think. XD And Neville as Herbology professor? Awesome. ^_^ I wonder who's headmaster now.
I think Snape was, by far, the greatest mystery of the book. Even up 'til the end, I had no idea if he was truly on Harry's (well, really, Lily's) side or not. Who would have thought he'd had such a close friendship with Lily? That he adored her so? Okay- so many people did. But I never seemed to think much of it at all except that it was a fan's passing fancy. Well, you guys were all right. It was very interesting to read. Makes sense, though.
Oh-and before I forget- the US cover.... is that supposed to be the final battle in the Great Hall? If so, why are their hands raised? I'm not entirely sure what's going on.
Oh, and Molly?? PWNAGE!!! XD MWA HA HA HA HA. Love that line. Amazing. The whole battle between both sides was simply amazing. Sad, insane, dreadful, reckless and dangerous, but amazing. As Harry so wisely said, "Stuff like that always sounds cooler than it was [I've been trying to tell you that for years]." I think it's my favourite quote. :3
I have many notes that I took during the book, which I'll probably reflect back upon later. I will say though, that by the "end" of the book (roughly) I was able to figure out all six of the Horcruxes, save for Harry. My sister will be elated- she thinks that Harry's scar itself is one of them- when it's really he himself. I'm so glad he didn't die. I'm also happy that he got to have one final word with those he loved. He's got a promising, great future in front of him. That makes me happy for him. (Now, don't go muck it up! XD)
And so do we, for that matter.
Even if Harry had died, he would have lived on, forever. I learned that lesson nearly four years ago. No one who dies ever truly leaves you if you still love them. They will live on, forever, forever... so will the characters that we cherish who passed away in the war with Voldemort. As long as we love them, they too, will continue to live.
I love these books. (:
