Hi, I've not been particularly active in this community since I've joined, mstly because I've been tearing my way through all the excellent fanfic you guys pointed me in the direction of. And for the record, you guys have good taste.

Ok, enough of the flattery! I've been thinking about what I can do personally to help the tsunami victims, and other than donate (which I've done - twice), the only thing I can think of is to encourage other people to donate also. I've posted links and things and will continue to do so, but I thought, well, perhaps HiH could unite and do something as a community. I know many of you out there are doing things to help but we came together as a collective to celebrate something we're all passionate about. Let's channel some of that passion and use it to do some real good. What do you say?

Thanks, didn't realise there was something similar already set up. But for all the banners and icons and fics being promised and made, there doesn't seem to be much donating going on.


This is a good idea to help people out: (originally from axmxz)


1) Think of how much you were going to spend next week on candy and soda.
2) Tally it up.
3) Donate that amount to UNICEF or an organization of your choice involved in tsunami relief efforts.
4) Next week, go without candy and soda. Whenever you get a serious yen, just think of the people who have no food, no shelter, no potable water, and quite possible no relatives and no native village or town anymore and realize that your sugar deprivation may be irritating the heck out of you, but it is saving lives in South Asia.

You don't have £10, or £5, or even £1? You can't give up one cup of coffee, one sandwich, one drink on a night out? Sorry, but you have more money and less need of it than some people at this time.

First off, I live in the US and we don't use pounds. Secondly, I'm only 14. I don't drink coffee, and my family barely ever goes out. My parents will donate, but I myself cannot. So before you go biting my head off, stop and think about why I may not be able to.

I would know more about the tsunami than you would. Our good family friend was in Thailand right before it happened, but luckily he left on a flight just hours before the tsunami hit. He very well could have died, and I know that thousands of others have. So how do I help? I keep them in my thoughts and I pray for them. Money isn't the only way to help, it's a more convienent way for people to shove dollars, pounds, francs at the cause and then forget about it. I'll help anyway I can, and I applaud you for being so supportive and everything, but you need to calm down and stop taking things so personally, and offending me. There's more to this than you know. I shouldn't have said anythign in the first place to please, just drop it and ignore that I ever said anything.

which fanfiction? I have sent money to Unicef myself. I sold a couple of my longer poems to a lit magazine and used that money to help the victims, it's not much, but every little bit counts.

Yesterday I finished 'Stealing Harry', and now I'm on the follow up, 'Laocoon's Children'. Have also been reading 'After the End', 'Underwater Light' and....something else I can't rememember.

I can't say 'thank you' because you've not done it for me, but you get my drift. I'm glad people are realising that a small sacrifice on their part is going to help. God, I sound sanctimonious, but what the hell!

ignore the first part of the sentence. it should read like this. :so many people were killed and have lost their homes, yet I'm able to do something about it, so why shouldn't I. It is for the good of others.
