You can either use them to buy things at hh_diagon like spellbooks and such, which you need in order to apply to become an animagus. You can also 'buy' points for the house of your choice, it's 2knuts per every one point, and that's done at Shpadoinkles (also at Diagon).

2) Um... are Prefects supposed to get a salary? I have 20 knuts for June, and that just covers the 4 times I was a Top Sorter. I need more knuts to buy more points for my house! :)

The only top sorter points I have for you is in the batch that was posted after the cutoff; all of the ones before the bookmark comment (here (http://community.livejournal.com/hih_mods/6867.html)) were already totalled, knuts given, etc. You'll get 'em next month! :)
