Boggle: Words are formed by the use of adjoining letters. Letters must join in the proper sequence to spell a word. They may join horizontally, vertically, or diagonally, to the left, right or up and down. But no one cube letter can be used more than once within a single word! For more information, check this site under "PLAYING:".

What to do: There are 16 names (the given name or the family name) of people who were once or still are in Hogwarts.

Tips: There is one creature, and one dead person in the grid, as well as a person who teased a Ravenclaw Ghost. Also, there's a Slytherin Quidditch Seeker, eight D.A. members, a family member of a D.A. member and three teachers in the grid as well.

Participation points: 10 pts. You must find twelve of the sixteen to qualify for points.

Deadline: Thursday 11th June Midnight EST, go here to post your results.

Dear Professor Dumbledore,

If you could be any comic book super-hero, who would you be?
- Gryffindor's Flash Gordon

A particularly enthusiastic student pushed Watchmen into my hands a few years ago, a novel which had a very interesting take on the idea of super heroes. One of which being that you have to possess a certain amount of eccentricity to don a mask and create an alternate identity for yourself. Such eccentricities are confused with insanity by those with very little imagination, and if some of my critics are anything to go by, perhaps you've found my true calling by sending this question.

If I were to be any classic comic book hero, then, it would have to be Batman. There's something intriguing about the fact that unlike many other comic book protagonists, he has no real power other than his own courage and ingenuity.

Write to Dumbles
You can write to your headmaster here; Dumbledore will try to respond to all letters, but there may be some delay before he gets to yours. All letters dealt with in strictest confidence.

Love is....

Well, according to Hogwarts Is Home, Love is around 200 words, a little bit cheeky and definitely not canon. Sweet, saucy and sometimes downright smutty, here are my favourite tales of romance/raunch from the past two weeks.

[livejournal.com profile] andromeda0604 is first up with a flirtatious kiss chase around the castle between Draco and Harry. Can Harry outrun his feelings for Malfoy, or is it all just a little calculated coyness on Potter’s part? At a suggestive PG-13, Andromeda leaves us to make up our (filthy) minds ourselves. Thank god for overactive imaginations...

Following on with the Drarry action, [livejournal.com profile] 3whiteroses shows us that Wicked Whispers really does have all the juicy gossip - but some lovers are just too caught up to care. The Boy Who Lived gains notoriety for entirely different reasons in Amy’s fic, Opposites Attract. Who's afraid of a little publicity anyway?

Stop! Who dare sully the good ship James/Lily? [livejournal.com profile] ravenclawbest does. And you know what? It’s damned good! Sirius and James take that whole 'what's mine is yours' thing a little too seriously in this astounding fic entitled Dare To Be Comfortable, featuring a playfully evil Sirius that honestly left me a tad tingly after. Ehem.

Love is blind, goes the old adage... but it never said anything about it being inky and tentacled. After a heated argument with Ron, Harry (again. Boy gets around) goes for a cooling swim in the lake; he's looking for solace, but he finds something altogether more seductive waiting in those murky depths. Is this a love to last all time? I'm going with yes. [livejournal.com profile] hiddengrace, your mind works in mysterious ways. Keep it up.

Clearly Harry’s been a busy boy, because those weren’t the only Potter pairings I saw. Is there something I should know?

Hmmm. Probably just coincidence.
Until next issue then, keep it in your pants, Potter keep those tales of love alive and keep writing!

Although there have been more than four pieces of art posted in Sugarquill since the last issue, the spotlight is being hogged by two of my fellow snakes, [livejournal.com profile] dracovontrapp and [livejournal.com profile] canarycream.

Of the five pieces they've turned out, my personal favorite is Drake's Luna Lovegood the Punk, which shows our favorite imaginative blonde in clothing that quite suits her wacky personality. I particularly love the collar, but then, I've always had a taste for not-so-innocent Luna Lovegood.

Mari's Young Tom Riddle is a close second - it shows Tom Riddle as I am hoping to see him in the upcoming HBP movie: young, orphaned, and set apart from all of the other children. The detail in the room looks like it was drawn with more attention to detail than many artists I've seen, but is simple enough that it doesn't take away from Riddle's disturbingly direct stare.

Over in [livejournal.com profile] sortedchallenge, the results for Challenges 1 and 2 have both been posted. Congratulations to [livejournal.com profile] absolutelybatty, [livejournal.com profile] xfortytwo, [livejournal.com profile] maaiker, and [livejournal.com profile] miss_un_known (1st, 2nd, 3rd, and Most Original) for placing in Challenge 1, and [livejournal.com profile] niicole_m, [livejournal.com profile] graveofdreams, [livejournal.com profile] planetgal471, [livejournal.com profile] xfortytwo, and [livejournal.com profile] nfgs (1st, 2nd, tied for 3rd, and special category, respectively) for placing in Challenge 2.

And as for those graphics makers who post to [livejournal.com profile] hogwartsicons - it's hard to choose between the posts over there, but [livejournal.com profile] supremacy_born's 10 variations on Ginny and Draco are beautiful (which should not surprise anyone who has seen her Flourish shop), and [livejournal.com profile] planetgal471 has produced a lovely batch of HP icons and headers, including the trio and quite a few other notable minor characters. If I had a place to put those headers, I would use them in an instant.

For any artists that need inspiration, the art challenge is still some mad hope over in [livejournal.com profile] hh_sugarquill, and you can still submit icons for Challenge 3 in [livejournal.com profile] sortedchallenge!

Hello once again, clubbers! Victorious clubbers shall be glitter-glam-glorified by yours truly.

Slytherin: [livejournal.com profile] trivalent made the new banner for Wizarding Wear (even if Gryffindor did show the most graphical love). [livejournal.com profile] supremacy_born was chosen by Rita Skeeter to make the cover for The Life and Lies of Albus Dumbledore; congrats Eve! [livejournal.com profile] absolutelybatty discovered the horrifying truth about the Order of the Phoenix-- it started as a knitting circle! How embarrassing for Voldemort. Slytherin won the Children's Book Week Discussion. They were also most vocal about choosing their new head of house (not a surprise, really). Slytherin displayed many viewpoints on Unforgiveable curses. Slytherin likewise displayed their prowess at writing charming stories, and at understanding muggle legends of thee Philosopher's Stone. They were also quite opinionated on Pseudoscience.

Ravenclaw: [livejournal.com profile] accountingwitch won the Smarmy "Portrait of a Portrait" activity with a *ahem* charming story of her own, involving male portraits, female students, and strip poker. Do you recall that the Order was originally a knitting circle? Perhaps that's where [livejournal.com profile] et_tu_lj learned to duel with knitting charms. [livejournal.com profile] msninacat demonstrated supernatural sorting skills, even if Slytherin out-sorted her. Ravenclaw were top duelers this time around. They also had the most ideas about teaching history, and the most interest in muggle customs.

Gryffindor: [livejournal.com profile] 3whiteroses had much to say about children's books. [livejournal.com profile] niicole_m graced the Shutterbug Society with her new banner. [livejournal.com profile] alight is the best farmer at HiH, though Ravenclaw is the best farming house. [livejournal.com profile] 3whiteroses also was recognized for her own portrait work. The very first moving wizarding portrait is being hung in the Magical Museum of History at her insistence! [livejournal.com profile] alohachary1851 schooled us on clothing quotes, pshaw. Gryffindor, as I mentioned, showed much love for fashion tags. We also came in with our many varied opinions on Wizard Rock.

Hufflepuff House's continued absence at the clubs vexes club leaders.

If you want to see your name in lights for the next issue, check out the weekly roundup and current tag to get involved!

By [livejournal.com profile] lotrangel17

Things may be dark over at [livejournal.com profile] hih_insomniacs, but they are never dreary. May's first activity, the "official" title of Mr. Bottomtooth's book, saw [livejournal.com profile] corky_dork of Gryffindor come in first place with the line "Morning Never Brings Salvation". [livejournal.com profile] pierhias and [livejournal.com profile] cashdogg827, both of Ravenclaw, came in second and third place respectively. Those two placings allowed Ravenclaw to come in first in points with Gryffindor second, Slytherin third and Hufflepuff last. The second activity for May is a debate on Insomnia and being an Insomniac and is just finishing up, so be on the lookout for those fun results in the next issue. This reporter is putting in a prediction that [livejournal.com profile] supremacy_born of Slytherin will be the top commenter, as Eve is really enjoying this debate and making some good points.

The scavenger hunts are still one of the best ways Insomniacs are earning points for their houses. May's Scavenger Hunt #2: The Spoof's On You found Hufflepuff and Slytherin tied for first, Ravenclaw third and Gryffindor coming in last. Not to let a loss stand, Gryffindor came back in Scavenger Hunt #3: Ministry of Magic in first place. Hufflepuff was second, Slytherin was third and Ravenclaw was last. Let's see if Ravenclaw comes back for the final scavenger hunt in the next issue!

Also don't forget to check out the Friday Five Social Post here. Remember, insomniacs, even you can make a post if you are up late and need some to talk to. Don't be shy! Let's get some late night talk going.

Until next time, remember: If you use your cell phone as a nightlight, you're probably an insomniac.

First, let's welcome the newest Animagi to enter the fold! Say hello to:

We Animagi welcome you all with open paws! Please be sure to use your new status to participate in the latest activity: take a picture of an animal, any animal! Meanwhile, the last discussion activity saw Slytherin run away with top points, headed by [livejournal.com profile] supremacy_born, the top debater. Great work, snakes!

We also seem to have a lot of Animagi in the wilderness who are either in hibernation or have simply wandered off of school grounds. Everyone should double-check this list to see if they're in danger of elimination due to way-too-long inactivity.

Do you too want to join in the antics in the Wilderness? You'll have to apply for registration first: purchase Miranda Goshawk's The Standard Book of Spells, vol. 1-5 from Flourish & Blotts, then fill in the application. It's quite easy and fun, really, and voting on your application gives everyone in the community a chance to earn even more points (and knuts)!

And be sure to find a particularly active Animagus in the community, for the Wilderness awards five bonus points to the monthly activities to any referee! You don't want those bonus points going to waste now, do you? (To whoever I referred over: yep, I've participated in both activities! 10 bonus points to Ravenclaw!)

Hogsmeade continues to thrive under [livejournal.com profile] et_tu_lj's hand! Thanks to [livejournal.com profile] planetgal471 of Gryffindor, winner of the Hogsmeade Layout Contest, the town has a pretty new face! Club leaders are signing away their lives for a weekend at the Activity Signup Post, while every student has been asked to share their opinion on how many and what kinds of activities they'd like to see. Speak up!

Hogsmeade is coming! Clear your calendar on the weekend of June 26-28, or miss out on the fun!

May's activity, Rival Team Cheers, didn't draw much participation, but, hey... it's hard to cheer on a team other than your own! Gryffindor [livejournal.com profile] planetgal471; [livejournal.com profile] cheredemoiselle and [livejournal.com profile] hiddengrace of Hufflepuff; Ravenclaws [livejournal.com profile] caketime, [livejournal.com profile] et_tu_lj and [livejournal.com profile] misanagi; and Slytherin [livejournal.com profile] amasaglajax rose to the challenge. Looking for a new cheer for your house? See what they have to offer.

The first match of the term is Gryffindor vs. Slytherin! Lions and Snakes, you need to fill out a poll so our referees can choose a time and actually have people show up!

AND NOW, THE MOMENT YOU ALL HAVE PROBABLY NOT REALLY BEEN WAITING FOR, BUT HERE IT IS ANYWAY:

Tentative Quidditch Term XIV Match Schedule
All periods are Friday-Sunday:

June 5-7: Gryffindor vs. Slytherin
June 19-21: Hufflepuff vs. Ravenclaw

July 3-5: Gryffindor vs. Hufflepuff
July 17-19: Slytherin vs. Ravenclaw
July 31 - August 2: Gryffindor vs. Ravenclaw
August 14-16: Hufflepuff vs. Slytherin

August 21-23: Championship

WOOOO STAND UP AND CLAP! Good luck, Gryffindor and Slytherin!

St. Mungo's has been plagued by an overall lack of interest. The moderators are still trying to perfect the vaccine and treatment for this awful ague, but until that time, you can do your part! Prevent disinterest in St. Mungo's!

For starters, the community is having an activity right now. Seven bravely creative and medically-minded souls have investigated the link between wizarding and muggle diseases. Go here to propose your own links between wizarding and muggle diseases. The activity ends at the end of May, so your time is running short.

Sadly, advertisement in the last Prophet issue did the hospital no good. We are still hiring Ward Leaders! Go here to learn more about this position, and to apply.

Currently, St. Mungos has two wards:
Common Magical Diseases - [livejournal.com profile] hiddengrace
Creature-Induced Injuries - [livejournal.com profile] slyfoxesq (roster forthcoming)
YOUR NAME HERE!

Finally, if you do not yet feel ready to take on a ward, go here to sign up to be a healer or healer-in-training. You'll earn extra points for St. Mungo's activities, and the privileges to move up the ranks to full Healer and to Ward Leader!

Term XIV, Issue 02                                                                                                                                         Page 3

By [livejournal.com profile] alohachary1851

The good ship Gryffindor is three sheets to the wind, but the Prefects are too busy sticking donuts on the spokes on the wheel to steer. And so alas, HMS Gryffindor is stuck in the wide open sea, adrift, but still looking effortlessly fabulous in flamboyant linens and gold jewelry.

New boatswains are hard at work uplifting the good name of Gryffindor. These grunts are [livejournal.com profile] individual_68, [livejournal.com profile] faith_harris, [livejournal.com profile] mindwar, [livejournal.com profile] nursedarry, [livejournal.com profile] delorispea, [livejournal.com profile] 3valve, [livejournal.com profile] hopechan, [livejournal.com profile] ashenshadow, and [livejournal.com profile] screamatmyself.

It takes a whole crew to run HMS Gryffindor and there are some who are pulling their weight and maintaining the beautiful 1600 mahogany warship, with its near 40 m length and gilded carvings. Graphics queen and former first mate prefect [livejournal.com profile] niicole_m came in first place in the House Unity banner contest. [livejournal.com profile] planetgal471 is all over, pillaging points wherever she can. [livejournal.com profile] corky_dork, nightly lurker in the Gryffindor crows nest, received first place for the first Insomniac activity. Perhaps this means a promotion to Gunner is in store. There are plenty of Gryffindors attempting a stealthy pillage for points, and [livejournal.com profile] loupcelte's spotlight posts are where ye ken find them.

The Captains of the Good Ship are fond of sorting... but mostly because of the new and improved sorting log that appeals to the needs of the house. As for the dead weight other Gryffindor boatswains? They know where the plank is.

As it were, the ship is running low on rum and fruit and gourmet baked goods that render the prefects broken. Before the crew of HMS Gryffindor becomes sober, scurvy ridden, mangy lions, the crew members are donning their stuna shades and nautical themed pashmina afghans, the only logical accessories for any fashionable pirate to wear during a ship supply raid.

Just a reminder, in case it wasn't obvious,

WE'RE ON A BOAT, HIH, DON'T YOU EVER FORGET
