We are blown away by the amount of excitement surrounding hih_thegame!! We're scheduled to open for gameply Sunday, so you still have a few days to get your character(s) ready to jump in at the very beginning! We'll always be taking applications, of course, but we want to start with a good chunk of players.

We have tons of spots open, including Professors, Aurors, and all grades/years (except Ravenclaw 3rd years)!!

To see what Years/Bloodlines/Professors we're in need of, check out THIS POST, and write up an application! Those that have already started planning their characters backstories are having a blast and eager to get started, so hop onboard! It's easy, and loads of fun. :)

Can I ask what your thoughts are involving the Aurors? Like, what kind of command structure, etc? Because I would be interested in playing one, but I don't know how that would work, exactly.

The Aurors would probably look at their job as to 'babysit', but the plot will involve them in a much deeper way that I obviously can't say, but yeah. XD They'd stay within the castle if stationed at Hogwarts, and in Hogsmeade if stationed there instead.

They'll have patrol schedules, partners, meetings, etc. that will help in the plotting on their parts. All orders will come from the Ministry via owls.

So, if you're aiming for 5 aurors, and they have partners, I suppose one of them is in charge? And then is there a set in Hogwarts and in Hogsmeade? Because I was considering making a rookie, because I figured the job would rather be babysitting. But I also thought someone who was really experienced who would act as a boss-type would be interesting, but that all really depends on how the Aurors work.

We plan on having many more in the game, but we're capping at five for now so that we don't have a bunch of Aurors and not enough students. :) Just like the student cap is at two per House/Year; we'll have more, of course, but we want balance first.

And a rookie Auror would be perfect, actually; the MoM would be more likely to send more rookies than more desired Aurors that should be out capturing DEs and such. ;)

how much time are you suppose to put in weekly?
if I was to play someone like Madame Pomfrey, Madame Pince, Madame Hooch, or Argus Filch, what would be the time commitment?
how about as a student?

Agh, I meant to clarify this after someone else asked it! ;) Anyway, canon characters aren't available to be played -- it's all original characters. So you'd have to create a character to take the place of one of those characters (with the exception of McGonagall's Dep. Headmistress position, Snape, and Dumbledore).

Time and effort probably wouldn't be that hard to work around. The game will operate on a biweekly system; meaning that a whole week will be up for gameplay, and that in-character week will last two out-of-character weeks. So you'd have two weeks real-time to play around somewhere within the week that's posted!

I've never done any RPG stuff before, just fanfiction. I don't know how it works, otherwise I would probably be interested in joining in. Maybe it's a bit over my head?

It's really not that different! :) I had never played until last year, after having done nothing more than fiction as well. It's almost like writing collaborative fiction, only a bit more exciting because you don't know how the other characters will react to the things your character does and says!

You can create a character that's based on your own personality/strengths/weaknesses, but it's a tricky situation. It may become difficult to differentiate OOC from IC opinions and feelings. Also, self-insertion often leads to Mary Sue tendencies!

It's completely up to you, however!
