![]() By Earlier this term, Bry/ The Chinese zodiac is perhaps most known in its iteration as the twelve animals who figured in the Zodiac Story about the Jade Emperor who decided to devise a way to measure time, but did you know that there is actually a sixty-year cycle for the Chinese zodiac calendar? This is because the five elements (Wood, Fire, Earth, Metal, and Water) in their Yin and Yang forms is a ten-year cycle that interacts with the twelve-year cycle for the zodiac animals. This means that someone born the year of the Yang Wood Rat would have to wait sixty years before the next person not in their cohort would be born with the same year. For a table of the previous and current sixty-year calendar, click here. To find what your zodiac sign is, go here. Rat Traits: Charming, forthright, hardworking, social, overambitious at times. They are easy to get along with and excel in business. Compatible with: Ox, Dragon, Snake, Monkey Ox Traits: Dependable and stable, fair-minded and a good listener, patient, routine-oriented. They have integrity and stand resolute against trials and tribulations. Compatible with: Snake, Rooster Tiger Traits: Trail-blazer, rebellious and vivacious, generous and adventurous. They are daring and colorful characters who are romantics at heart. Compatible with: Horse and Dog Rabbit Traits: Reserved, strong-willed and gracious. They are considered lucky in general. They can also be cunning and self-indulgent. Compatible with: Sheep and Boar Dragon Traits: Magnanimous, energetic, loyal, and positive. They are constantly on the go, but they must be careful because they can burn out. Compatible with: Rat and Monkey Snake Traits: Wise, graceful, skeptical and tenacious. They are steady and the philosophers of the Chinese zodiac, likely to rely on their own judgement over others'. Compatible with: Ox and Rooster Horse Traits: Cheerful, unpredictable, stubborn and intelligent. They are quick-witted and headstrong, quick to action and quick to boredom. Compatible with: Tiger and Dog Sheep Traits: Righteous, shy, gentle, artistic, and pessimistic. They prefer following to leading and they have a tendency to be overcome with emotion. Compatible with: Rabbit and Boar Monkey Traits: Clever, sociable, confident, inventive. They are fast learners and doers with innate charm. Compatible with: Rat and Dragon Rooster Traits: Self-assured, conservative, meticulous, organized. They are at times eccentric and often misunderstood, perhaps because of their perfectionist natures. Compatible with: Ox and Snake Dog Traits: Likeable, loyal, selfless, straightforward and practical. They are concerned with equality and justice and consider honor highly valuable, a mark of their idealistic nature. Compatible with: Tiger and Horse Boar Traits: Pure-hearted, gallant, thoughtful, and kind. They make lasting relationships and are always happy to help friends with their troubles. The February batch of Animagus hopefuls has been posted — there are two applications this month and you have until February 26, 11pm UTC to vote for them, so if you haven't gone over yet, read the apps and cast your votes! Don't forget that you get 5 extra points for voting if you already have an Animagus form. If you don't have an Animagus form yet, then what are you waiting for? Head on over here to submit an application! You only need to own the Standard Book of Spells volumes 1-5, and you can purchase them at Diagon Alley for 10 knuts apiece. Don't have knuts yet? You can earn them by participating in a couple of activities hosted around the community, And what do you know, there's still time to do just that with the February Monthly Activity, which ends on February 27, 11:59pm UTC. Simply choose three television characters and what their Animagus forms might be in at least 150 words. Easy-peasy! Finally, if you haven't signed up yet for a pack, you have until the end of the term to do so! Signing up for a pack isn't necessary to join in on the ability to earn badges, which the Animagus mods are giving a new spin on for this term, but it does get you cool new badges! Check out this social post for a look at the badges unlocked so far, as well as join in on the discussion about why you love your Animagus form (and why you love the forms of others)! That's all we've got for this issue. Bry/ ![]() By Hello, all my favorite people. I have some exciting news and developments from the world of First, let's start with the final piece of info from January's Hogsmeade If you think that is exciting, then just wait 'til you read this. Last week, in her first official public co-mayor duty, Alex/ from April 4 to 6 The mayors promise "fun from various time zones, countries, and cultures!" and assure us they will provide more details on what exactly that all means as we get closer to the big weekend. ![]() In addition to the news of when and what, the mayors also unveiled a couple other changes — namely tags (there are now tags for !mayor posts and #weekend posts) and participation bonus (woot! Now you only need to stamp 8 apps to count it as an activity!). But the biggest and best change came not from the mayors but your lovely Flourish mods Nikki/ The highlights of these changes are: • Shops & stalls are no longer. Now there are just 10 "Hogsmeade Shopkeeper" spots per house. • All Hogsmeade shopkeepers will be allowed to make both regular and gift tags • The ordering limit per shop will be 10 tags total, regular or gift tag, whatever you wish to order. • All tags will be worth 4 points. • Sign-ups will be open for all non-Flourish shopkeepers for 24 hours before opening for everyone. Sign-ups are, as always, first come, first serve. • Everyone will have until the last Sunday of the month to deliver for points. Though if you want to count Flourish toward your Hogsmeade bonus, then you do need to deliver within seven days. If anyone has any questions about these new and exciting rules, just ask the lovely Flourish mods. And keep a look out sometime in March for the signup post. ![]() But don't despair! You don't have to sit around and just stare at your calendar, slowly ticking off the days, for the next month. There is something you can do! Enter the banner contest! You have until March 23 to enter, so that means you can make a new version every day until you get one that is just perfect. Or not. Up to you! But until next time, happy banner making and Hogsmeade waiting, HiH'ers! <333 |
