Sort the Famous! Results
Sep. 20th, 2005 05:29 pmUnder the cut you will find the results of our "Sort the Famous!" Contest. The results were completley outstanding, and I think that seeing well-known characters sorted into houses will help sort new members as well. :) This post is being listed in the memories for help when voting -- be warned!! You guys gave us some long lists. ;) ETA: Apparently even longer than I thought, as LJ has so unkindly informed me that this post is TOO LARGE. So, it will be split in two. :)
Television Series / Film / Book Characters
Alias
Gryffindor
Sydney Bristow: Gryffindor. She's brave, righteous, law abiding. Plus she kicks major ass.
Michael Vaughn: Gryffindor, at least for the first 2 seasons. He's brave, righteous and law abiding. His father was CIA and now he's following in his dad's footsteps.
Ravenclaw
Jack Bristow: Ravenclaw. Sure, he'll go fight, but he has fun doing the behind the scenes stuff. Some might even call him a puppeteer. He's really smart.
Slytherin
Irina Derevko: Slytherin. Simply because she's too fantastic not to be. She is the most wonderful slytherin ever. And yes, she's a lot like Sydney, but she breaks the law and looks out for herself and her family first. Another thing that sticks out with me is that she shot Sydney to save her life in episode 2x01. That's not Gryffindor behaviour. I mean, it could be, but it seems much more Slytherin. She got what she wanted, they both came out alive.
Hufflepuff
Will: Hufflepuff. Especially the first season. He's a journalist. He chases down leads, goes after stories, never quits. He went after Danny's killer (journalistically) like a pitbull, or perhaps a Badger.
All My Children
Gryffindor
Babe Chandler - Gryffindor. She will do anything for the people she loves, even if she goes about doing it the wrong way. She let the one true love of her life go, just so he can have the life that he is meant for. And she will stop at nothing to be reunited with her young son, even if that means selling her soul and getting back with the ex husband who has made her life hell.
Zach Slater- Gryffindor. Sure, he has some Slytherin tendicies. Rule breaking, a bad family name, and not all that liked around town due to the fact that thanks to his given family name, he's misunderstood. BUT he's always there to lend a helping hand. For a while, in almost every episode, you would hear him say at least once or twice "How can I help?"
Ravenclaw
Tad Martin - Ravenclaw. Sure, he lets his emotions get in the way at times, but most of the time Tad is the practical one. And the fact that he is a detective always searching for the clues and the answers makes him seem more Clawish than anything to me.
Lilly Montgomery - Ravenclaw. Even though this young lady is autistic, she is extremely bright. She loves mysteries, and loves to solves things. You will often find her reading a book or studying when she isn't with her family or her boyfriend Sam.
Slytherin
Adam Chandler - Slytherin. All this man thinks about is greed, ambition, and family. He will do anything and hurt anyone that gets in his way of his cash flow or his family. The only time he separates himself from his cash flow is when it suit his needs and works in his favor.
Amanda Dillion - Slytherin. This young lady is nothing but a nasty little gold digger. She befriended Babe in hopes of trying to come between Babe and her fiancee' Jamie Martin. But thier love was true strong for her lies. Now that Babe has given Jamie up so that he can become a doctor, Amanda is now at his side. But for how long?
Garrett Williams - Slytherin. This guy is creepy as hell. He is subtly, but yet not, trying to get with his finacee's daughter. And like either in late high school, early college years. A minor practically. Wrong. Just wrong on so many levels, this one is.
JR Chandler - Slytherin. He's so much like his dad, it's not funny. He will make anyone life's a living hell when he decides he doesn't like them.
Hufflepuff
Kendall Hart - Hufflepuff. A true friend. Who else would offer to put nine months of their own life on hold to carry a child for their best friend because their best friend can't carry the child themselves? She, like her best friend Greenlee, is extremely loyal to the ones she loves.
Greenlee Lavery - Hufflepuff. Her loyalty to her now dead *or so she thinks* husband, Johnathan, knows no bounds. She went to great lengths to defend him to freinds and family. Even after all she went through with his family, she still remained loyal and tried to help him.
Amélie
Ravenclaw
Gina (the hypochondriac) – naturally distrustful, Gina is a passionate woman when she lets go. She knows much about ailments – this obsession with a particular niche of learning makes Gina a Ravenclaw.
M. Dufayel (the recluse) – Dufayel thinks deeply about the Renoir (I think it’s a Renoir?) which he repaints every year. He connects this to his reality – such thought on so many levels makes him a Ravenclaw.
Slytherin
Lucien (the stalker-ex) – Lucien records every observation on his dictaphone. The way in which he intensely observes first Georgette, and later Gina, strikes me as rather Slytherin behaviour.
Hufflepuff
Amélie Poulain – a compulsive need to help other people makes Amélie a Hufflepuff.
Nino Quincampoix (the photo album man) – when Nino gets his photo album back, he stops at nothing to unravel the mystery. The identity of this benefactor takes on an almost quest-like hue, but he perseveres, and in the end, he ‘gets the girl.’ His perseverence makes him the ideal Hufflepuff.
Arrested Development
Gryffindor
Michael Bluth: Gryffindor. Granted, he tends to lie quite a lot, but he doesn't really mean to. He prides himself on his morals, and he really loves his son. His intentions make him a Gryff.
Ravenclaw
George Michael: Ravenclaw. Not quite brave enough to be a Gryffindor. He's quite intelligent and has high expectations of himself academically.
Lindsay Funke: Ravenclaw. She is not quite ambitious enough to be a Slytherin, but she is quite intelligent. She doesn't have very much drive and never follows through. I suppose it's because I'm like that, that I put her there.
Slytherin
Maeby Funke: Slytherin. She is cunning and ambitious. She'll lie, cheat and steal. The difference is that she is a self-actualized liar, cheater and stealer. She prides herself on it.
George Sr.: Slytherin. Ambitious, cunning, clever. He's escaped from jail so many times, and laundered money and is still making money even when he's in prison. Really, he's quite shrewd.
Arthur
Gryffindor
Buster: Gryffindor, always the life of the party, Buster is the brave one. He's willing to take more risks than Arthur and is very witty.
Ravenclaw
Brain: Ravenclaw, he's smarter than anyone else in his class, his entire character is based around his intelligence and he's the source of knowledge.
Slytherin
Francine: Slytherin, she's ambitious and a little pushy. She doesn't mind making other people mad to achieve her end and she's very cunning.
Muffy: Slytherin, even more ambitious than muffy, she always gets what she wants.
Hufflepuff
Arthur: Hufflepuff, Arthur may be the leader in his gang, but he's also very quiet and down to earth. He sticks up for his friends in all situations and is always looking out for the community.
Babylon 5
Gryffindor
G'Kar: Gryffindor. G'Kar has a tendency to behave rashly and in moments of passion. He is an incredible warrior, though. To save his people, he puts himself into a horrendous position, but he never falters in his courage.
Sheridan: Gryffindor. Brash, bold, and daring are excellent words to describe Capt. Sheridan. He was the leader of the only successful attack on the Minbari. He breaks away from Earth Alliance when his principles are challenged. And he's willing to undertake what seems like an impossible battle.
Ravenclaw
Dr. Franklin: Ravenclaw. When the Earth-Minbari war broke out, Dr. Franklin destroyed all of his research notes on xenobiology to prevent them for being used for warfare. To him his research was above such usage. He used to hitch rides on freighters, just for the chance to study new races.
Slytherin
Londo: Slytherin. Londo despite his mistakes is a good guy. It's just that he is so blinded by his ambition sometimes that he makes the wrong choices. He wants to restore his world to its former glory and in the meantime make a name for himself as well. He was definitely willing to use any means to achieve his goals.
Hufflepuff
Lenir: Hufflepuff. Lenir devotes his entire life to the service of another. He seeks no glory for himself, but finds joy in making others' lives better. Even though he attempts to serve others first, this does not make him a pushover. When it comes down to it, he is more than capable of holding his own, and not afraid to fight.
Buffy the Vampire Slayer / Angel: The Series
Gryffindor
Buffy (VI) - Buffy is a Gryffindor. She's headstrong, brave and does the right thing because it has to be done. She doesn't run away from her responsibilities. Of course. She's a leader, a do-er, a fighter. She's passionate and forthright and never gives up. Being the chosen one hasn't been easy for her, but she accepted her destiny and did what had to be done. Even when things looked bad and it seemed like there was no way she could overcome the next threat, she still kept fighting. And when the moment was there, she gave her life to save her friends without a second thought. She's a champion. She fights demons, is brave and is even willing to die for those she loves. She's the first one to face evil.
Angel (III) is a Gryffindor. He carries an enormous responsibility on his shoulders, but he doesn't run away from it. He's a fighter, always fighting against his own past and his guilty conscience as well. He's the champion, the fighter and he helps the helpless. COME ON!
Spike (*) - Not subtle enough for Slytherin, he's bold, passionate and fun-loving.
Cordelia belongs into Gryffindor, because she truly developed into a brave woman over the years.
Anya (*)
Joyce
Ravenclaw
Willow (V) - Willow is a true Ravenclaw. She's book smart, loves to learn and seems somewhat geeky (and I really mean that as a compliment ;p). Love of learning, highly academic, quirky sense of humour. Ravenclaw. She started out as the really smart one, and then with the witchcraft, her power grew exponentially. But her main power has always been her knowledge.
Giles (IV) - Another no-brainer. Objective, calculating, highly knowledgable and wise. He's much like Wesley from Angel because of his dependence on books and knowledge.
Fred (II) is a Ravenclaw, mainly, of course, because of her thirst for knowledge, and for her intelligence. She's the shy nerdy bookworm who yammers and gets far too into whatever she's studying.
Wesley: Ravenclaw. Simply because early Wesley was so 'Clawish. I know the darker Wes was more... well actually he's always been Ravenclaw. He's smart and he relies on his knowledge to fight his battles.
Dawn (*)
Slytherin
Anya (II*) - Obviously. She's determined, crafty, confident and Queen of Teh Snark ;)
Giles (*) - Giles belongs to Slytherin. This seems strange, at first, but I'm referring to his past as "Ripper". He has no problem using "morally doubtful ways" to solve a problem or to get his way. Of course he has his limits just like everyone. But he wouldn't mind killing an innocent for the greater good, e.g. killing Ben in order to prevent Glory from returning.
Wesley is a Slytherin. He does not trust his friends even when he needs them the most, because he keeps a certain suspicion, or even a certain thinking of superiority: "They wouldn't understand". He also doesn't mind using doubtful means to get to his goal. A little cold-blooded, maybe, but not uncaring.
Lorne: Slytherin. And no, not just because he's green. I honestly don't know what Lorne's moral stance is. Sure, he doesn't like fighting and killing, but that's just because he wants people to sing. When he went Hollywood, you could really see his Slytherin qualities, and Angel even said once that he was the only one who really understood how things worked. (watch episode 5x21!) POWER.
Faith
Spike(II)
Drusilla
Hufflepuff
Xander (VI) - Xander also belongs into Hufflepuff for his undying loyalty to his friends. Impossibly loyal to his friends, hard-working (see Xander, the Later Years,) friendly and humble. The only 'normal' human of the group. No special powers to rely on. Yet, not once did he abandon his friends. Time after time he showed his loyalty. He's always looking out for his friends and if you hurt one of them, he won't forgive you easily. Angel got a taste of that. Come on, he's the one who watches his superpower friends and is there for them. He's fairly reliable and works hard.
Tara (IV) - She's loyal to Willow and the others, working hard to achieve as much as Willow and staying on ground when it comes to morals. Thus she wouldn't allow Willow to send a whole bar full of people into another dimension just to find one single person. Incredibly kind, caring, loyal and hard-working.
Dawn (II*): Hufflepuff. She's basically the replacement for Joyce, but she's the key man, she's reliable, hard working and she looks kind of like a badger. HA!
I'd like to place Gunn into Hufflepuff because of his loyalty. It took him a lot of thinking to exchange his loyalty for his friends in order to become a member of Angel Investigation; but once he committed himself to this new group, he defended it also against his former friends. They have lost his loyalty, true; but it wasn't easy for him. Once his loyalty is set, it's hard to break.
Cordelia (*): Hufflepuff through and through. As Fred once put it, "Cordy's the heart." She is the center of their group and you can especially tell this when she went evil. Everything went to hell. She's supportive, reliable and extremely important.
The Canterbury Tales
Gryffindor
The Knight: Gryffindor: He exhibits and values the qualities of chivalry and bravery. He himself has fought in a number of great battles.
Ravenclaw
The Clerk: Ravenclaw. He spends so much time reading books that he has little real life experience. He can however quote extensively from a number of important literary and legal texts.
Slytherin
The Hooste: Slytherin. While he has a pleasant enough disposition, he has also calculated the situation to his advantage. While the idea of a sharing of stories is nice and all, it serves another purpose. In the end, it will bring business back to his inn, which means he will profit.
The Pardoner: Slytherin. He manages to sell relics to people, even though they aren't relics at all. He's a smooth talker and a con-artist. He's definitely got the cunning of a snake.
Hufflepuff
The Parson: Hufflepuff. The Parson is a truly good person. He encourages others to lead their lives based on principles of humility, fairness, steadfastness of heart, and morals.
Desperate Housewives
Slytherin
Gabrielle is also a...Slytherin. No, not the vanity. But she also has no problem lying to her husband and her friends in order to pursue her desires.
Bree is a Slytherin. Ambitious and headstrong, taking all possible means to get what she wants.
Bree is a perfectionist and ambitious, thus deserving a place in Slytherin. Once you've hurt her or betrayed her trust, she gives you a hard time gaining it back.
Hufflepuff
Lynette is a Hufflepuff. She's a hard-working woman, but even though she seems to break in, she always stands up again with new strength.
Susan is also a Hufflepuff, but also had gryffish streaks; no, it's not her clumsiness ;) She's just a very nice person and would go through thick and thin for her friends. And she's working hard to maintain the household and raise her daughter, all by herself.
Discworld by Terry Pratchett:
Gryffindor
Magrat is a Gryffindor-in-the-making, so to speak. She's brave, but she has not yet discovered the full range of her bravery (kind of like Neville). Still, she did stand against the Queen of the Elves, unafraid, in order to save her husband.
Slytherin
Granny Weatherwax is a Slytherin. She's a tough woman, who tells the truth to people even when it doesn't please them. She seems to be hard and harsh, but if you know her well enough, you see behind that mask (which is still not soft, but less intimidating).
The Patrician is a clawish Slytherin. Clawish because he studies a lot and is enormously smart and wise. Slytherin because he is ambitious and willing to bend morality when it comes to gaining and securing his power. His Slytherin side dominates, else he's be a Slytherclaw.
Hufflepuff
Carrot is a Hufflepuff because he honestly only sees the good in everyone and thus seems to be a little naive at times; people thus often make the mistake to underestimate him or taking him for a fool.
Nanny Ogg is a Hufflepuff. She's so much fun to be around, seemingly careless and naive, but in fact a hidden force. She weighs loyalty very high and expects unconditional loyalty and devotion from her family. Easily to be underestimated.
Frasier
Ravenclaw
Frasier Crane – Ravenclaw. Could a psychologist be anything other than a Ravenclaw? One who listens to the whole mess, can untangle it and help you realise what needs to be changed – pretty pure Claw!
Niles Crane – another Ravenclaw – he is very like his brother. His wit is fabulous – another clear Ravenclaw trait.
Slytherin
Ros Doyle – Slytherin. She’s really sneaky at getting Frasier to do any number of things.
Martin Crane – Slytherin. He has Daphne and his sons wrapped round his little finger (tee hee).
Hufflepuff
Daphne Moon – Hufflepuff. She stays with Martin for years – lives with the Cranes! She works patiently and diligently with Martin.
Friends
Gryffindor
Rachel Green (*) – is a reckless Gryffindor. She wears her heart very much on her sleeve and isn’t afraid to make snap decisions (‘I got off the plane’). She takes responsibility for her reckless actions (her daughter, Emma).
Ravenclaw
Ross (II) is a Ravenclaw because he is smart and loves to share his knowledge with his friends (who might not be *that* interested). He is extremely intelligent (holding a PhD in paleontology), reclusive (he’s not the type to talk about his emotions, or even how his day went; it stays inside) and eccentric.
Phoebe Buffay (*) – another Ravenclaw. Off in a world of her own for much of the time, Phoebe has had a brilliant education at the University of Life – but, like many genii, doesn’t have a drop of common sense! She is extremely creative and loves with her whole heart.
Slytherin
Rachel (*) is a Slytherin because she's a career woman. Her ambitions made her quit as a waitress and start work in Manhattan. She shortened her maternity leave for the sake of her career. She wants to be "up there" and goes for it.
I can't help it but I see Monica (II) in Slytherin. She has high goals in life (husband and kids) and wants to achieve them by all means. She cannot accept any other possibilities. She also has ambition, in the catering industry. She presents herself well at all times, being a perfectionist at everything. And she always gets her way with Chandler (and usually with her brother, Ross!)
Joey Tribbiani (*) – Slytherin. He gets people round to his way of thinking a lot (well, a lot of women into his bed, that’s for sure!), which takes cunning. He keeps on straining to the goal of being an actor – a great ambition. And he has a great sense of ‘family’, with his large immediate family.
Hufflepuff
Phoebe (*) is a Hufflepuff for being a very nice and open-minded person; and I also think she's a late sort of Hippie, which makes her even more fitting into that house.
Joey (*) is a Hufflepuff for his relaxed views and fierce loyalty. For example, he went to Rachel's boss and confronted him when he thought that the boss wanted to buy Rachel's baby. A true friend when you need him.
Chandler Bing – Hufflepuff. He wasn’t afraid to go back to the bottom and start over, and has proved remarkably successful in his new job. He works really hard. Plus, he absolutely worships his wife, Monica!
Gilmore Girls
Gryffindor
Lorelai (*) seems to me a strong Gryffindor; She's witty and stubborn, and can be quite temperamental. She's always willing to fight for the things she loves most -- especially Rory. She takes chances and risks, and is brave in doing so.
Ravenclaw
Rory is a Ravenclaw. She loves to study and learn. The amount of books she has read is huge and covers an incredibly wide range of topics.
Slytherin
Paris is a Slytherin. Her ambition drives her very far, and if it doesn't bring her where she wants to go, she falls into a depression. Ambition and perfectionism have high values in her life.
Emily is a Slytherin. Cool and tough, she goes her way the way *she* wants to; not even her mother-in-law can break her, even if she gives her a very hard time.
Hufflepuff
Lorelai (*) is a Hufflepuff. Because she's so lively and seemingly careless, she seems to be a bit naive sometimes. But she's working hard to keep her little family financially stable, and to make her dream come true (= the hotel).
Luke is a grumpy Hufflepuff. Because even if he's pissed off with Lorelai, he still comes and helps her when she needs him. Same with his sister and Jess. No matter how disappointed he is, his loyalty stays.
The L Word
Gryffindor
Bette: Gryffindor. She's the champion, the one who is quite self-righteous and who is probably the bravest of the bunch.
Dana: Gryffindor. She turned out to be braver than she thought she could be. Kind of like Neville, Dana is really turning out to be a Gryff.
Ravenclaw
Jenny: Ravenclaw. She's the tortured writer. She is always in her head, analyzing everything.
Alice: Ravenclaw. She's very analytical, I mean look at the web of hers. She's hard working and clever.
Slytherin
Shane: Slytherin. I think she's more of a Puff, but hides it by acting more Slytherin. She's had a tough life, and has shed many skins
Hufflepuff
Tina: Hufflepuff. She's the Mommy, the one who stays home. She's a nurturer, but she's also hard working, dependable and extremely loyal.
Law and Order: SVU
Gryffindor
Olivia Benson: Gryffindor. She has a habit of charging into situations when she miiight have been better off waiting. For example, when she had a stalker. She ditched her partner and went off to investigate on her own. This nearly got her killed.
Fin Tutuola: Gryffindor. Similar reasons as to Olivia. He's a bit warier now that he's moved from Narcotics to SVU, but he still charges into situations without waiting for backup. When he and Olivia team up, they usually have to worry about facing a review board at the end.
Ravenclaw
John Munch: Ravenclaw. Oh John. So a male, older, crankier version of Luna Lovegood. Filled with theories, filled with logic.
Hufflepuff
Elliot Stabler: Hufflepuff. He's a family man, loyal to a fault to his squad, and very solid.
Don Cragen: Hufflepuff. He's very protective of his detectives, and gets his work done. Not to say he doesn't have a temper, but he gets riled by disrespect to his team.
Les Misérables (Boubil & Schönberg)
Gryffindor
Marius Pontmercy – Marius is noble enough to put aside his chance at love to fight alongside his fellow students for his beliefs. He shows his bravery by not deserting the barricade even when it is plain that the National Guard have overwhelmed them and there are no reinforcements. He is kind to Eponine when she lies dying in his arms, and he weeps for her when she dies. He fights for her memory. This makes him a strong Gryffindor.
Slytherin
Jean Valjean – a Slytherin. Valjean has a great sense of self-preservation. When he is given his ‘yellow ticket’ and subsequently given the silver and a chance to start over, he takes it. When Javert recognises him at Fantine’s death-bed, he pleads for time to find Cosette and promises to return (of course, he is not so foolish). When he is given the chance to murder Javert for Javert’s treachery to the Students, he does the very thing that he knows will destroy Javert – he releases and forgives the gendarme.
Hufflepuff
Fantine – Hufflepuff. Fantine is utterly devoted to her daughter, Cosette, to the point of leaving her with a family whom she believes will bring Cosette up – as she is unable to manage herself, as a single mother. She works hard at Valjean’s factory, and when she is dismissed for a fight and concealing Cosette, she does not balk at selling her belongings, her hair, her body to raise money to send for Cosette, whom she believes is ill.
Javert – Javert is a very proud man. He has a strong sense of righteousness to the point of piety. He is loyal to his cause to a fault and he will not give up seeking a wrongdoer. This makes him the consummate Hufflepuff.
Cosette – Cosette is completely devoted to her ‘Papa’. When she falls for Marius, she falls hard. She nurses Marius back to health after the battle. She is a Hufflepuff.
The Lion, the Witch & the Wardrobe
Gryffindor
Peter Pevensie – Peter didn’t come to be known as ‘Wolf’s Bane’ for nothing! Even though he’d never wielded a sword before, he fought to protect his sisters and the entire encampment from Maugrim (Captain of the White Witch’s secret police). He also plans the battle that comes the morning after Aslan’s ceremonial death. He is a Gryffindor.
Slytherin
Digory Kirke (the Professor) – as those who have read CS Lewis’ ‘prequel’, The Magician’s Nephew, will know, Digory was there the day Narnia was born. With this knowledge, one views his consultation with Peter and Susan in a very different light (after Lucy has shown them…the back of a wardrobe and is swearing up and down that there was a wood there before!). He allows them to discover the wonders of Narnia by themselves. His cunning makes him a good Slytherin.
Edmund Pevensie – Edmund turns situations to meet his own needs. He puts himself first. He is lured by the promise of great fortune and preferential treatment, and manages to slip away without anyone noticing when they are at Mr. and Mrs. Beaver’s. This makes him an addition to Slytherin house.
Hufflepuff
Lucy Pevensie – Lucy is the most open of the Pevensie children. She is the first to discover Narnia, and she is a naturally helpful and friendly child – she’s not inside the wardrobe five minutes and she’s befriending Tumnus the Faun! Her sunny disposition fits well into Hufflepuff.
Susan Pevensie – the child Susan is very motherly, compeltely loyal to her elder brother Peter and warm-hearted. I shall not consider the young adult Susan, for we only hear her brother’s version of things – we never meet her directly after the events in Prince Caspian. The child Susan is a Hufflepuff.
Lord of the Rings
Gryffindor
Frodo Baggins (IV) - Despite the many frightful things he faced on his quest to destroy the Ring and the temptations it held, Frodo displayed utmost courage and nobility making him a typical Gryff. Frodo, just like Harry, has a burden to carry. He belongs into Gryffindor because he takes his responsibility and doesn't run away from it. Frodo continues on his quest even when he knows that he will be alone, even though he barely knows the way to Mordor and knows that the way will be treacherous. This takes true Courage. The parallels to Harry are a bit stunning at times. These two naive, brave, and strong characters facing what should be invincible odds, but facing it anyway, because it is whats right.
Aragorn (III) is a....Gryffindor! He's brave, he's earnest, fighting... you name it, he's got it. Aragorn’s denial of his line has probably kept him alive and prevented the line of Isildur from ending. He has picked up many great abilities – swordsmanship, a knowledge of herbs, and an ability to travel unnoticed in his guise as Strider the Ranger. However, he is not a Slytherin – he lacks the ambition inherent in one of Salazar’s children; indeed, he is most reluctant to claim the title of Isildur’s Heir. His bravery is evident throughout the books and films, and this is what tips the balance into Gryffindor. Aragorn is a leader and a hero. He leads his people with passion and courage, and even when things seem most bleak, he's willing to charge into battle without fear.
Meriadoc Brandybuck – Gryffindor. Merry fights in battle, even though he is half the height of most of the other men. He sacrifices himself to allow Frodo to escape the notice of the Uruk-Hai and the reckless manner in which he does this makes him a candidate for Gryffindor.
Peregrin Took – Gryffindor. Pippin doesn’t think about his actions. He runs out of Longbottom leaf long before Merry, he’s the one with the big mouth at the Prancing Pony – but he has a heart of gold. He, too, is brave – he is the first one (along with Merry) to run out to meet the Orcs at the Black gate and he fights as a guard of the Citadel.
Boromir (II*) – Gryffindor. Tempted by the lure of the One Ring, in the end Boromir redeems himself and gives Pippin and Merry a chance to run, also alerting Aragorn, Gimli and Legolas to the situation by blowing the Horn of Gondor. He is the reckless older brother, the one who brings back spoils and wins back. While Boromir is corrupted by the ring, he still exhibits the heart of a lion. No one is immune to the power of the ring. However, he still defends Merry and Pippin in the end--fighting to the death. He also volunteered to travel a long journey to unknown lands in order to find help for his people.
Eowyn: Gryffindor. This girl would rather die than have others protect her. She fights for what she believes in and is widely considered one of the bravest characters in the novel.
Ravenclaw
Gandalf (III) is a Ravenclaw for his intelligence and wisdom. And I'm pretty sure he's read every single book ever published in Middle Earth. Gandalf holds a lot of cards he does not reveal until the proper time. Such wisdom, coupled with his great ability, makes him a Ravenclaw. He is one of the wizards, and therefore by definiton must be a Ravenclaw! Like the elves, the Istari are known for their wisdom.
Faramir: Ravenclaw. While Faramir is willing to go to battle for his people, his first love is scholarship. He likes to read over the old books and records of Gondor and learn about his people's heritage. He is a calculating, intelligent person.
Slytherin
Boromir (*) is a Slytherin because his ambitions (freedom of Gondor) make him blind towards doing the "right" thing. Of course his intentions are honest and well. But his means aren't always correct.
Legolas – Slytherin. He has footfalls so soft they cannot be heard, and a quick mind.
Saruman (II): Slytherin. Saruman is a shrewd and brilliant wizard. However, his desire for power is what eventually corrupts him. While he possesses the intellect of a Ravenclaw, he ended up using his learning not as a source for understanding the world but as a way to further his ambitions. I would argue that this character was never evil, but ambitious. He was then corupted by true evil. He was wise, but desired power and survival.
Hufflepuff
Sam (IV) is a Hufflepuff for his undying loyalty to his master (that sentence might as well describe a Death Eater, now that I see it in front of me. Oh well). He's also a trustworthy servant. Dear old Sam! ‘I’m going to Mordor alone, Sam,’ said Frodo. ‘Yes! And I’m coming with you!’ His total and unquestioning loyalty makes him the perfect Hufflepuff. He is, to me, the very exemplification of what a Puff is- loyal, caring about the environment, and truly a sweetheart. Sam's loyalty to Frodo is legendary. He looks for the good in the world, keeps hope alive, and even goes so far as to carry his friend when he couldn't walk for himself.
Gimli – Hufflepuff. He is loyal to his close friend Legolas (though he’d be loath to admit it).
Lost
Gryffindor
Jack (II): Gryffindor, Jack's the born leader. He's always walking onto the heart of darkness and is willing to face the monster itself to get the supplies needed for the entire camp. Easily a somewhat foolishly brave Gryffindor. I love this character, but even I have to admit that he sometimes takes the hero act to the exteme. Nevertheless, he is truly brave and is assuredly the leader of the group.
Jin: Gryffindor. The man was willing to give his life to stay married to the woman he loves. Now, he is daring the ocean in a desperate attempt to rescue not only himself, but the other castaways. He is hard-working and, undoubtedly brave.
Ravenclaw
Sayid: Ravenclaw, although he is most certainly brave, he is more likely to reason and logic to combat a situation than pure force. He's figured out how to fix more devices to get them off the island than anyone else and he's constantly coming up with new ideas.
Locke: I'm torn. Right now, I'm going to stick with Ravenclaw, though later episodes may prove him to be a Slytherin. His intentions are not always pure, but his intelligence and usefull knowledge about the island are what has kept the survivors alive this long.
Slytherin
Kate: Slytherin, Although she seems very kind, Kate will actually use any means to get her way. We've seen her con men into helping her many times before simply dismissing them. She's got a dark side and is cunning enough to get what she wants without anyone realizing it.
Shannon: Slytherin, she used Boone to get money at least three times before they landed on the island. Once on the island, he used multiple men to show she could "fend for herslf" she clearly, doesn't consider other's feelings when reaching for her own ideals.
Sawyer: Do I even need to say it? Well, I put it this way, he certaintly is no Hufflepuff. Not only does Sayer do just about anything he can to help himself, but he is the ultimate in snark. Thank God for this Slytherin presence on the island, otherwise there would be a great deal of spice missing.
Hufflepuff
Charlie (II): Hufflepuff, he's very peaceful and has put his own life on the line for Claire (his one friend) more than once. He is just about as sweet as could be when dealing with Claire, but he also shows his loyalty by killing the man that trys to harm her.
Mr. Rogers
Gryffindor
Prince Tuesday: Gryffindor, he's the brave kid. He's always out for what's right and fighting injustice.
Ravenclaw
Daniel Tiger: Ravenclaw, he's intelligent, shy, and kind. He'd rather be curled up with a book than out saving the world.
X the Owl: Ravenclaw, leader of the Owl Correspondance school, he's very learning-concerned. He thinks problems in the neighborhood out rationally.
Slytherin
King Friday: Slytherin, he's very ambitious, he's the leader and he knows it, he can be a little short-sighted sometimes when it comes to other's, and always knows how to succeed.
Hufflepuff
Fred Rogers: Hufflepuff, He's kinda, caring, giving, and very peaceful. He's always interested in other people and can see the good in anyone.
The O.C.
Gryffindor
Ryan Atwood: Gryffindor. He's very honest, trustworthy and brave. He'll fight for those that he loves or for what he believes in.
Ravenclaw
Seth Cohen: Ravenclaw. He's quite analytical and can't always understand his insane teenage emotions. Rather nerdy because of the comic books and stuff.
Sandy Cohen: Ravenclaw. He's a lawyer, smart, clever. He's just.... Sandy. He's quick witted and has worldly knowledge.
Slytherin
Julie Cooper-Nichol: Slytherin. I love her character. She gets her way and is the most cunning of everyone. However, she's a bit too obvious to those who know her. She's the first one everyone looks to when there's something going on.
Hufflepuff
Kirsten Cohen: Hufflepuff. She's the loyal, dependable, hardworking one. I think that she's obviously flawed, but she's there for family when she can be.
Diana Gabaldon's Outlander series
Gryffindor
Jamie is a warrior and thus in Gryffindor. He is brave and strong - and also pretty stubborn.
Brianna is a Gryffindor, but besides her bravery and stubbornness this is mainly because she reminds me of a fierce lion. So does Jamie, as a matter of fact. Must be the red hair.
Fergus also belongs into Gryffindor. He is very charming, but even now, with one of his hands gone, he is still a fierce fighter, protective of his family and his friends. This is also a puffish trait, but not strong enough to balance out the Gryffindor in him.
Ravenclaw
Roger belongs into Ravenclaw because he's a real book nerd (and I love him for that ;p); he's smart and knows a lot of stuff, something that does sometimes interfere when it comes to being practical which he has yet to learn.
Claire belongs into Ravenclaw as well, because she is always trying to improve her skills even more. First she was a nurse, but that wasn't enough for her, so she studied and became a doctor; and now, in the wilderness, she tries to make penicillin in order to become an even better healer than she already is.
