I was looking at the tent pics from GoF, and they seem to only have like 100 tents set up. From the book, I read that Harry could see tents as far as the eye could see. How could they film a movie with such little tents? Bah I dont know... they ruined the other three, why not this one too?

The magic of CG, my friend. They didn't, for example, have a hundred thousand extras for LotR's epic battle scenes... a lot of the hordes were just CGed in, with the ones in the foreground there to give better realism or something.

You do know that they usually make CG backgrounds for most films, don't you? It would be far easier and cheaper to make a few thousand tents on a computer for a background shot than it would be to fabricate each one individually.

You'd be surprised how easy a small amount of location can be made to look like a huge area just with different camera angles and changing the tents around a bit. Really, it's very common to just use a 'base' set like that - and dont forget that these are production photos - they look nothing like the finished product will!

The tents from a distance shots are likely just going to be that -- from the distance. When they are moving through the tents, things are going to look different. They are just set shots and they require a lot of computer editing.

As a note, the other three movies weren't ruined.

Yeah, like everyone else said, they'll manipulate it to look like there are more tents.

I'm with you on thinking that the first three were stinkers. The third was the worst for canon-thumpers like me. My friends and I left the theater in shock, wondering how someone could do that to such a good book and such good characters.

As someone else said - CG. Technically, if they had wanted they could have done the whole seen CG (You should see some of the set images I have for Attack of the Clones - A LOT of blue screen...)

I don't see why you think that they "ruined" the other three. I think that they did pretty good jobs with them, considering the length of the movie and how much they had to cut out of it.

I wouldn't be so quick to judge how it's going to look until you've seen the finished product. If I had just judged PoA based on the production shots, I may not have gone to see it, but I think that it's the best job that they've done so far, even accounting for how much of the information was (quite sadly) missing.

i dont have anything constructive to contribute considering its all been covered but i just wanted to say that im majoring in CG animation *bow* and i hope they do a kickass job on this movie (i know they will but still) cuz its my favorite book out of the 5. but ill stay optimistic as always :D but im still determined to work on at least one harry potter movie before theyre all done and over with!

I thought they ruined them too, but thats also because I've read them what? 8 times a piece. You have to remember that there are SOOO many interplot things that can't be captured in the movies, so you have to look at them from a non-readers point of view. When you look at it that way they are much better! But I DON'T know how they are going to pull off some of the main points in GoF because they cut the plots to them in the previous 3. We shall have to wait and see...

For myself, I just want to see the 3 story tents with fountains in the front garden. Heh.

As for the pics, where did you find them?
